August 9 1978 - Wednesday - 64° at 7 AM. Sunny. Terrace is dry - first time in weeks. 15 ducks, Wes had upset stomach again during night. Wes picked up Cadet wheel. Played golf 9:30/11:30 very crowded. Cut back and side grass - around veg garden - some trimming. Picked vegs - tomatoes now ripening - picked four. Transplanted seedum from bedroom side preparatory to moving iris. 1979 - Thursday - 54° at 6 AM - Fair - Put corn out immediately - six ducks came in - only 5 ate. Wes went for milk. Pat here to clean at 8 o'clock - Played golf 8-11 - very slow ahead - played with Bill Frazer. Planted Veronica and Blue Moss Cypress on back bank - 2 Maidenhair Spleenwort at front steps (Oliver's) - Eileen looking for office furniture - here at 2 o'clock - took her to Colonial Gallery - Yankee Ridge - bought diningroom table - Wes cut lawn - very dry - I picked vegs & watered 1980 - Saturday - 72° at 6 AM - cloudy - Hurricane Allen heading for Texas coast. Hot and humid day - high about 88° but sun so hot couldn't work in it. Wes cut lawn late in day - I did side terrace and around veg. garden. Deadheaded - only few daylilies left. Dried flowers on pole in barn. The kitten followed me across big bridge and stayed here all day. Phoned Claus again - no call back. 1981 - Sunday - 66˚ at 6 AM. Foggy - hazy hot and humid. To 8 o'clock Mass. Packed Baskin Birds - all brass - 5 boxes of books - Wes added cost of new house - to date 125,000 without land. Took one Heather and Mandarin Daylily to Bogus. Work on floors finished - ready for sanding. Didn't go to veg garden - deadheaded along road. 1982 - Monday - 69˚ at 6:45. Slept late - Raining since 3 AM. (Sun rose 6 AM - sets 8:02 PM) 1.25 inches at noon - hurray. House chores & letters - Wes indexed magazines Wes went for haircut - dropped me off at Sylvia Barry's - looked at raincoats - to return at P.M. On to Ridgefield - Liquor store - Candleshop for 2 armchairs for Solar Room and table for upstairs bath. Back to Sylvia Barry with my jackets - bought raincoat - blouse (navy), & sweater blouse - cut north grass - Wes had shop hour. Rained again at dinnertime August 10 1978 - Thursday - 64˚ at 6:30. Cloudy. 33 ducks, one small fresh one. Played golf 8 - 10. Worked on Ballard Garden until 10:30. Shopped Grand Central, liquor store - gasoline - Pepperidge. Home for lunch. Wes cleaned gutters. I deadheaded. Cut grass - (trimmed) below barn - Wes did banks of front pond and front of big pond. I edged below barn & cultivated - Wes to meeting at Dan McKeon at 8 pm on Historical Survey 1979 - Friday - 64˚ at 6 AM - cloudy - 6 ducks came back for the corn - 5 are in one family and fly off together. To Mass Light shower at breakfast - looked very much like thunderstorms all day - heard some but no storm here. Wes worked in shop - fixed garage door - cable broke. I wrote envelopes for Ballard Garden flyer - pruned "[[?]]" in terrible shape - wrote Bit and Joan - trimmed [[?]] pine and spruce at Sargeant Crab - transplanted Norfolk Pine - Wes saw a groundhog - ran away 1980 - Sunday - 55˚ at 6 AM - Almost chilly - fog rising from pond. The kitten was at the breezeway door We fed her - to 8 o'clock Mass. She went away for the day - back at cocktail time. Temperature rose and became humid again. Wes did desk work - I worked in veg garden & deadheaded. Put Polyglycoat on car. Painted one side of new shed with grey stain. Over 100 Mallards at evening. White domestic has crippled leg again. 1981 - Monday - 58˚ at 6 AM - Hot - very humid day. Phoned telephone company re move - Wes cut up all wood in basement and brought it to Bogus - Ordered Silo - put down deposit. Mike picked up ash for livingroom paneling. Kitchen cabinets being installed. Kitchen equipment delivered - Watered vegetable garden - some animal ate all ripe tomatoes - Deadheaded daylilies very thin. Eleanor Grouse went thru Bogus house at 5:30. 1982 - Tuesday - 68˚ at 6AM - Cloudy - AM - Cleared early to lovely day - nice breeze - warm To Mass. I played golf with ladies. Wes continued bringing soil and choice rocks to cliff wall. Sent off Dutch Bulb order. Shopped Grand Central for Maxwell coffee on coupon @ $1.99 - then to Ballard garden for meeting with Carol Stoddard, Ricky - Madeline Morrison & Dolly on next meeting's speaker on Perennials
