December 1

1978 - Friday - 18° at 6:30 - Beautiful winter day - to Mass. Had Wes prescription filled & bought new Yankee Droll birdfeeder at Meekers - had passport pictures at Sturdevants (terrible) Bethel post office to mail new order for Irish sweater (Wes to get first one) Bethel didn't have passport application - Christmas cards at Booklet - back to Danbury Post office for passport form - home for lunch - Wes hung new feeder high in tree - tied up 4 Arborvitae.

1979 - Saturday - 20° at 6:30. Fair- Ice on pond except in cove - 36 mallards - some flew off after eating. Domestic ducks were amazed at ice - flew over. Polished brass - cleaned - Made pumpkin torte and wild/white rice - blueberry muffins. To 4:30 Mass at St. Peter's - confirmation at St. Elizabeth Seton 5 pm and guests for dinner tomorrow.

1980 - Monday - 38° at 6:30. High in 40's. Ponds open again - lots of Mallards. Hobby hours. Shopped Basics - had car washed - first time - to wash off salt from trip. After lunch dug up remaining leeks - raked grass terrace and flower beds below big wall and at terrace. To Ruth Sharp's for a drink at five - she gave us Solar literature.

1981 - Tuesday - 22° at 5:45. Clear - watched beautiful sunrise. To Mass. Mike and Wes put up pegboards in garage - too cold to hang tools. To Agway for thistle seed. Booklet for Christmas cards. Basies for bananas and a few groceries - Marcus. Home for lunch and a nap. Rain (we were surprised it wasn't snow) started at noon - Wes worked in shop. I studied Micro Wave Oven book - cooked bread pudding & ham. 

1982 - Wednesday - 44° at 7 AM. Mild cloudy - Mist and very light rain in afternoon. Shopped Basics - Marcus and bank. Wes worked in shop - not successful. I made Toll House Cookies to take to Mary tomorrow, and an apple pie. Raked leaves from perennial garden. Wes fixed draw pulls on den draperies to draw liner and drape together.

December 2

1978 - Saturday - 35° at 6 AM - Beautiful winter day. To Mass - took a lot of stuff from old sheds to dump - Shopped at Stop & Shop (bananas 4/88¢) Mailed passport applications - home to tie up remainder of arborvitae - straightened up old boards at woodshed - will hope for burning permit - after lunch worked on hobbies - was making holiday mats for Singletons.

1979 - Sunday - 17° at 6:45 - Fair - Ponds iced - Mallards ate and flew away for water. Have a one legged crow around - Bananas this week 39¢ a lb. In morning we prepared for guests. Mary F. - Mary Sells and Cornells here at 1 pm - pleasant afternoon. They left at 5 - we cleaned table and went to Portfolio Yellow Monkey for opening of Alex Ross show. House at 9 to do dishes etc. 

1980 - Tuesday - 38° at 6 AM. Bananas yesterday at Basics were 28¢/pound. Beautiful winter day. Mild - just over 50°. Wes went to Mass - I prepared for Passing Committee Meeting at Sandy Cowser's - shopped Stop & Shop enroute and picked up Ricky Harrison. Home for lunch. Shopping at the Rosses for our Amaryllis  Wes had worked in shop. After lunch we raked up debris at veg garden - cut off daylilies - put burlap around rhododendron in front of house. Learned Dick Lauder died this morning. 

1981 - Wednesday - 52° at 6 AM - Raining - Re 1978 - banana s yesterday were 3/99¢. 1.6 inches of rain good. Put up thistle feeder. Hung tools on pegboard in garage. Took a long time but sure improved garage. Washed greenhouse windows. Eileen came at 1:30 with Boo. We will mind her while Eileen is in Washington. Howard Castle installed two walk lights this afternoon when sun came out. Moved bell - put St. Francis along walk. 

1982 - Thursday 50° at 6 AM - Basics bananas yesterday 2/69¢. Sun 7:04-4:30. Cloudy morning - cleared by afternoon - mild. To Mass. Left at 9 AM for Lord & Taylor Eastchester - bought blue bowl for Eileen's Christmas. Velvet slipper and boots for me - 1983 diary and leather book which we hoped to use for a 5 year diary but it doesn't have enough pages. To 12 o'clock Mass with Mary for Mom's Birthday then lunch with Mary. Stopped at Eileen's enroute home to pick up hanging basket for Powder Room but that doesn't fit.
