January 24 

1983 - Monday - 38° at 6:45. Sun 7:15 - 5:06. Very foggy. A lot of snow went in rain yesterday. Some sun - lunch in Solar. I shopped Stop and Shop. Looked for skirt pattern - to Union Trust to deposit slip on my pension - change in amount - have to write Travelers - probably tax withholding - Wes had no luck making small rivets. Watched "Das Rhinegold" at night.

1984 - Tuesday - 24° at 6:15. Icy Rain - Deeded not to go to mass. Sun 7:14 - 5:03. Temperature rose to 40° by time to leave for Garden Club meeting - unsure in morning Numerous accidents on roads.
Wes put blind up in guest room - split wood - worked in shop. I took paperwhites to Community Center and won first in that class. Roads sloppy but not slippery - fog on return home - still raining 

1985 - Thursday - 22° at 6 AM - Sun 7:13-5:04. Not a bad day - mostly sunny and a little milder - over 32° during day. To 7:30 Mass.
Left at 10 o'clock - picked up bottle liquor & currants from Stop & Shop - to Reclamation with papers & bottles - to Photo Shop for Nikon Camera for Wes' birthday - bought House & Garden as has article on Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Maine Garden. To Bill Kolnay in Norwalk for lunch (dinner!) Jean & Jinny Huffnagel there - home at 4:45.

1986 - Friday - 19º at 7 AM - Slept in - wonderful. Watched planes on East/West pattern over hill - beautiful to see catching the sunlight - leaving trails of white.
Sun 7:15-5:01. Beautiful cold sunny winter day
House chores - to bank - I shopped Waldbaum's while Wes had the car washed - took our walk - lunch - nap - Wes in shop. I knitted - worked on crossword - Planted Shortia, Trailing Arbutus and Maidenhair spleenwort (seeds from New England Wildflower Soc) put them on tray in upstairs window.

1987 - Saturday - 14º at 6:30. Fair. Put heat on and went back to bed for a half hour. Fair, cold, windy day. Raised lights over forced Iris in upstairs bathroom - changed pull on dining room drapery. 
Walked our third mile on Ned Mountain - luckily not too much wind. Lunch nap - out to trip to open path to front door and make turnaround in driveway but too cold and windy, so only filled birdfeeders.
Wes finished penciling of ships bell clock case. I made Brown Rice (etc) casserole

January 25

1983 - Tuesday. 32° at 7AM. Mostly cloudy day  - high 46°. Sun 7:14. 5:07. This diary arrived by Cramp of Cornwall - sent 11-30-82! Wes split wood - worked in shop - made rivets 
I picked up Helen - to Keeler Tavern for noon meeting. Garden Club - Nancy - Carrol Draper slides of African Safari took Jeanne Tempanelli and Helen home. Bit phoned at 5:30 - Mike has cancer - doctors report on tests later in week asked me to phone Eileen and Joan.

1984 - Wednesday - 34° at 6:30. Sun 7:13-5:04.
Beautiful winter day - milder - the January thaw? I checked on Poinsettia at church - left Hillside Garden lists (McGourty) at Anne Tracy's - Wes in shop. We put block contact on livingroom screen - looks good - I took in seam of wool shirt again trying to get it to fit - worked on plants - threw away more old recipes - shoveled snow from deck - still 6 inches [[strikethrough]] three [[/strikethrough]] and very wet. Reagan gave State of Union Speech.

1985 - Friday - 30° at 6:30 - Light snow on ground - cloudy Sun 7:12-5:05. Snow flurries off and on with sunshine all day - no accumulation. Wes swept front walk in morning and I pushed it from the Solar roof - Wes finishes cleaning it off with a broom from outside. We went for gasoline and a wash at Texaco on Route 6 and shopped "Shop Rite" - a clean looking store. Took one set of bulb pairs from cold/dark storage for Greenweek show Wes split wood - I made soup - repotted Streptocarpus.

1986 - Saturday - 22° at 7AM - Cloudy - Cold - windy
To church to check on poinsettias and flower baskets - watered them - picked out dead leaves - still in good shape. Started snowing so decided not to take our walk. Did get exercise later shoveling walk and deck - filled bird feeders - loads of finches. Enjoyed hearing new wind chime in high wind. Wes in shop - I knitted - did crossword - Wes worked on it - couldn't complete in all. Temperature rose in afternoon - 40° at night & raining

1987 - Sunday - 7° at 6AM - New Moon and Star Venus looking out kitchen window. Cold but sunny day - no wind. To 8 o'clock Mass. I was Lector. Joan phoned to inquire how we were doing in the snow. They don't have much - have a new furnace luckily. We went to Waldbaums after Mass for bananas and vegetables. Took a walk before lunch - to Red's Lane - good going despite cold. Had a martini - lunch - nap - started sorting checks for tax.
