March 10

1983- Thursday- 37° at 6 AM - windy - rain most of day - no rain gauge out.
To Mass. I went to Marcus and bank - otherwise indoors except for one trip to bird feeders. House chores and hobbies.
To hear Father Berge talk on Christian Zen at 8 pm - home at 9 as we left at coffee break.

1984 - Saturday - outside Bradenton Florida.  Left after breakfast south on Route 75 to Ft. Myers Stopped there at a market for breakfast supplies and liquor. On to Sanibel Island - to Captiva Island South Seas Plantation at 1 pm. Room not ready - had lunch at Captain Al's at end of Island - Beach Villa 2423 - second floor - living/diningroom - kitchen bedroom & bath & screened porch looking over bay. To 5:30 Mass at St. Isabel's Church - loads of people - back to villa for drinks  - dinner - bed.

1985 - Sunday - 28° at 6 AM - clear.  Saw pair Canada Geese and 3 Mallards on lake - half is still frozen. Beautiful sunny winter day. To 8:00 Mass. Read paper in Solar - so warm there almost went to sleep. Picked leaves from wall garden top - [[?]] is still on many of plants - a good many look burned: Lunch - nap. Went to "Preview of Spring" show in Greenwich. Enjoyed looking at exhibits - Brought my tulips and Hyacinths home - here at 5 pm - Next to last "Jewel in the Crown" installment.

1986 - Monday - 33° at 6:30 - Overslept - cloudy - became fair. Packed - watered plants - filled bird feeders - took daffodils to Gizella - she will take in mail. On our way to Philadelphia 9 AM - Garden State Parkway to N.J. Turnpike - arrived Barclay Hotel, Rittenhouse Square 1 PM lunch - to Civic Center for flower show - beautiful Left at 6 PM for hotel - nap - dinner - bed.

1987 - Tuesday - 13° at 6:30 - Cold - what a drop in temperature. At least not the reported snow flurries. Sun 6:16-5:57 - Windy and cold but sunny. Washed - ironed -hemmed the blue/white skirt - Wes in shop working on engine plan. Early lunch and nap - to N.Y. Horticultural Society Flower Show - walked around admiring exhibits - Our 8 entries took 4 prizes - Muriel Pedersen H.M. for Sinningia - me first for Rosemary Wreath - Second for twin Myrtle topiaries - HM for tulips - not too bad. Had bananas that cost 75 cents! Picked up entries - reached home at 7:15 - lots of cars on Henry Hudson - slow going but made it safely. Had phoned Hooker in morning on his birthday.


March 11

1983 - Friday - 35° at 7 AM. Cloudy - Sun 6:16-6 PM but we won't see it - it's been a non-sunny week.  
To Stamford House Wrecking to check on mantels - none - Brock's for lunch - Pottery Barn bought basket for Cuisinart blade holder - Stopped at 4 antique shops in Scotts Corners looking for mantels - none - bought Japanese Bronze vase - Admired dog - to Yellow Monkey - no mantels 
Home at 3:30 - Nap - looked at mantels in Book of American Homes. Heavy rain at night

1984 - Sunday. Captiva Island - good sleep in king size bed. Made our own breakfast - ate it on porch. Walked beach - beautiful - lots of small shells in sand. Sunny & warm. To Gift Shop for postcards - wrote them - did a wash in Laundry Room. Gin and tonic and eggs for lunch. Nap. Walked to mail cards - buy N.Y. Times for $3.00. Steak dinner - watched "Barrets of Wimpole Street" on T.V.

1985 - Monday - 28° at 6:15 - Fair  Sun 6:14-5:58. Sunny morning - cloudy afternoon and windy - rain started 10 pm.
House chores in morning - Wes in shop. Left at 12 o'clock for Atchley - My 2 pm appointment with Dr. Baxi a new gynaecologist for me - learned I had possible vagina infection. Home at 4 pm for a nap. To Capricchio's at 6 - dinner party for Sattlers, Sobols and Rosses - they are all going on various trips soon - Rosses tomorrow to Arizona & California.

1986 - Tuesday - Barclay - Philadelphia.  Beautiful day very breezy but mild - didn't need a coat. After breakfast in hotel - walked to old city district saw Liberty Bell - Tourist Center - walked in park - 18th Century Garden - Horticultural Society - lunch at City Tavern - Movie "Trip to Bountiful" - walked back to Barclay - nap - walked to Restaurant 'Apropos' ... modern but wonderful dinner - 5 grain bread - unfortunately didn't have any for sale - walked back to hotel - Crossword - bed.

1987  Wednesday - 12° at 6:30.  Fair - cold morning - little warmer in afternoon. House chores - plants. Wes on engine drawing - took our walk to Ned's Lane - stopped to say hello to Jean Henley who was cooking maple syrup in boiler over fire set between two big rocks. Lunch - nap. I went to Ballard where we planted the squashed strawberry pot with Herbs - to bank - gasoline - Youngs for sunflower seed - Stop & Shop - home. Wes had finished crossword - hard!
