March 28

1983 - Monday - 46° at 6 AM.  Foggy & cloudy.  Springlike (early) cloudy - some rain showers.  
Sun 6:48 - 6:18 but we didn't see it.  I met Madeline Morrison at Ballard Garden to discuss plans.  Shopped Grand Union - bananas were 57¢/lb.  I was so shocked only bought two.  Home for lunch.  Wes in shop.  Lunch & nap.  We were going outdoors but shower prevented - waited for clearing - then uncovered Hepaticas - coming up!

1984 - Wednesday - 36° at 6 AM - Cloudy - Re above, Wes bought bananas yesterday for 49¢/lb.  Forgot to record planted 44 onion sets yesterday.
To Caldor's to return dead smoke alarm battery and bought new alarm.  I bought beef and chicken at Stop & Shop & cooked them on our return
Bad day - sleet - rain - snow started at 4 pm.  Out only for bird feeders and Wes brought in wood.
Mary Sells died yesterday.

1985 - Thursday - 54° at 6 AM.  Partly cloudy - Re above, bananas 49¢ at Stop & Shop & Waldbaum - 55¢ at Grand Central.  Became mostly sunny warm day.  A shower in afternoon but not measurable - very dry.
To Mass.  I went with Louise McKeon to Pinchbeck to pick out lilies and azaleas for Easter at the church - Danbury Chimney Service cleaned den chimney.  
After lunch and nap planted the Balsam Fir little Christmas tree - a big job for Wes as he dug up so many rocks.  Uncovered part of Wall garden [[?(work)]] and cut off dead parts of plants.  

1986 - Good Friday - 40° at 7 AM.  Clearing.  Wes up a lot in night coughing - I slept better.  Beautiful day 
I went to Pinchbeck for 2 lily plants - Brunette for Easter Lamb - Stop & Shop for strawberries (store jammed)  Home for lunch & long nap.  To 3 o'clock service - then to Mary Luke's at 5:30 to see Millicent and Mack [[?Sandy]] home from Charleston and Florida - Ailene Ross also there - she had been attending meeting in NYC for the week.  Home at 8 for supper.

1987 - Saturday - 46° at 6:30.  Raining - we need it - not very much - cleared mid-morning.  Left at 8:30 for Tarrytown - with Eileen to Sunnyside for railroad show - not what we expected - Lionel Trains only but enjoyed walking the grounds.  Saw Leucojum Vernum in bloom.  Eileen gave us lunch - one of her cassettes to play in the car enroute home.  We had admired her new hi-fi system.  Nap.  Washed car.  Walked about inspecting grounds.  Two Canada Geese on pond and 5 ducks.  Ice has all melted in pond.


March 29

1983 - Tuesday.  40° at 6 AM.  Clearing - cleared at 10:30  Sunny, windy and cool.  No Mass as Wes took car for 35,000 mile service - forgot to take tires so snows still on.  I did a wash - ironed placemats & napkins from Sunday's luncheon - Mantel delivered by Danbury Lumber - their truck stuck in Freddy Grouse's mud road - had to call for another truck to pull out - transplanted tomato plants to larger pots - planted Mary's Alberta Spruce on ridge top - Wes cut up big fallen tree on rock ledge north side - we cleaned off stone and made a path there.

1984 - Thursday - 32° at 6:30.  Up early but when saw the snow and heard the wind, went back to bed.  No Mass.  Terrible winds - drifting snow.  Tornados killed 70 people in the Carolinas.  Glad we weren't traveling.  The suet feeder was blown off - had to dig in the snow to find it - blew off again - Wes put the McKeon's feeder on the tree instead.  Mike [[?Blowed]] - Wes shoveled, getting snow shovel from crawl space.  I made rum coke, Gizella came to watch.  Wes & I went to Marcus for milk and paper - tough driving

1985 - Friday - 55° at 6 AM.  Partly cloudy - became sunny and very warm - 78° in afternoon - forecasted rain put off again.  Walked Boo - Left for Tarrytown to return Boo, home at 8.45 - Eileen's cold is better but still coughing terribly.  
To Flower Show at County Center - admired it - saw pool at [[?]] display so went there and received information on pool, jet and pump - will see if we can dig hole.  Lunch at Sassafras - home for a nap - took Boo's fence down - removed more fencing from wall garden - Wes put on garden well/pump - we watered small hemlocks & lock garden seeds in pots in nursery.

1986 - Holy Saturday - 44° at 6 AM.  Partly cloudy - cleared and became a beautiful warm breezy day - up to 70.
House cleaning etc chores in morning.  I made tart shells for strawberries, and strawberry mousse.
In afternoon we took salt hay from perennial bed and from the rock garden - took off the inner cages of wire on the dwarf evergreens on the rock garden.  Wes put on some screens.
Our cols are better but still with us.

1987 - Sunday - 42° at 6 AM.  Foggy - cleared to a beautiful warm day.  To 8 o'clock Mass - Marcus for milk - Worked outdoors - Wes moved remaining raised bed couple feet forward east and one toward north - make a better pathway - I put in a half dozen [[?pounds]] of compost while the soil was dug up - Attached line for birdfeeder to other trees over cliff to make our visibility better.  I cleaned rhododendron garden of [[?ba]] - put mulch around Azaleas - cut dead twigs, cleaned up wall garden, opening fence - 
Tired, but making progress on cleanup for spring
