April 27

1983 - Wednesday - 40˚at 6:30.  Sun up here at 6:32.  Beautiful warm day.  72˚was high - put screens in Solar and fan in window.  Cut out all extra pepper & tomato seedlings.
Two men from Wright Brothers did tree trimming and felling from 8:15 to 3:30 - made openings over cliff to see pond - trimmed big oak over bank, etc.  Looks good.
Painter here at noon to tape plaster board nail holes and joints in kitchen hall

Bloodroot out - transplanted cauliflower to outside

1984 - Friday - 48˚at 6:15 - Beautiful day 
Transplanted tomato plants - using up all Ball's Mix - have more to do.  Planted rest of onion sets.  After shop time, Wes worked on stone wall.  We moved four Leucothoe to bank edge over shade garden - south.
Mike finishing chimney and put insulation bats in hay loft.  To East Ridge Jr. Highschool for St. Elizabeth Seton Antiques Fair - took tickets from 7-9 - not many people came for the preview party.

1985 - Saturday - 62˚at 6:30 - Partly cloudy - cleared to beautiful clear sunny day-high wind. Water restrictions placed in New York
Wes went to Young's for cow manure & fertilizer - He borrowed Mike's level and referenced points in garden room.  Went to Marcus & bank.  I watered bushes on wood knoll - the Carolina Rhododendron is beautiful - cut grass - we finished digging the new perennial bed - I dug up the narcissus at entrance to garden room and planted them on wood knoll.  Wes edged back of wall garden and up the curve

1986 - Sunday - 54˚at 6 AM - Daylight Saving time - could have slept longer - shower overnight.  Became a beautiful afternoon - only a trace of rain.  
To 8 o'clock Mass - substituted for Lector who didn't show up.  Planted Hosta Eileen gave us - taking out the 4 Leucothoe the deer ate - put them on Leucothoe Bank to regrow.  Put the Conn. Agriculture Dept. seedlings in planting bed.  To Keeler Tavern Garden House at 4 in Rosses car to concert of Diane Chaplin, cello, and Ann Bretz, Piano - on to Tempanelli's for supper.

1987 - Monday. 36˚at 6:30.  Fair, beautiful cool day.  Wes went to Alex Ross to advise on his Toro mower.  I went to bank, Brunetti, Stop & Shop. 
Did wash - ironed.  Wes moved Cornus latifolia to place along north path-leaving space for Carlson's azalea when it comes.  We spread leaf mulch on back shade garden - put some on perennial bed.  Put [[strikethrough]] two [[/strikethrough]] 4 more bags of pine bark mulch on south entrance shrub garden.  I trimmed heather on wall garden.  Transplanted 6 tomato plants into larger pots.  Watched Shoah on Channel 13 (part of it) in evening.


April 28

1983 - Thursday - 52° at 6 AM - Clear - Sunny - very warm day - in 80's  To Mass.
Hoffman serviced the burner.  Painter spackled nail holes, etc. - just a half hour visit.  Wes put some screws on - cut trees over cliff to the north of deck.
I went to Westport Nature Center for program on Brie for tomorrow's Ballard Garden work.  Cut grass and watered transplants.

1984 - Saturday - 42° at 6 AM.  Sunny warm day - over 70°.  Lots of black flies.  House chores.  Transplanted rest of Leucothoe to bank over bog - Moved ferns around to do so.  Went down path over cliff - blocked at end by brush Wright left there - saw Hepatica and Bloodroot.
Pinchbeck delivered 3 laurel, 3 Leucothoe, 2 Mariesi and 1 Tomentosum Virburnum - we planted these on Wood Knoll - bitten a lot by the bugs - pump ran out when finishing watering.  To Ruth Sharp's at 5 - her couple is leaving.

1985 - Sunday - 43° at 6 AM Daylight S.T.  Clear - some mist at 4-5 PM.
To 8 o'clock Mass - made cookies - Wes balanced checkbook - paid bills.
To Rosses at noon, they drove to Waccabuc where we were guests of Sattlers for lunch, home 4 pm for a nap - I transplanted the Guinea Impatiens - 6 into 2 pots for RGC project.  We tied up spiral.  Potted variegated geranium cutting

1986 - Monday - 48° at 6 AM - Sun coming up. - Beautiful warm day - sun hot - about 74 in PM.
To Carlson's in South Salem - picked up 3 Flame Azalea (R. Calendulaceum) admired their gardens.  Home to plant them, 2 on South side - pond side of Garden Room - one along path near well.  After lunch to Claire's Nursery, Patterson NY - bought about a dozen perennials - other supplies - home to plant 2 White Bleeding Hearts near rock house to shed path - dug out small rock garden plants along East steps - Wes will cut out tree strings tomorrow.

1987 - Tuesday - 38° at 6 AM.  Snow showers!  Light rain all morning - 4/10 in gauge by P.M.
To Congregational Church Parking Lot at 7:50 where bus to Brooklyn Botanic Garden - RGC Garden trip - left about 8:15.  Had good tour of garden - admired Japanese Garden.  Cherry trees in bloom - lilacs - Herb Garden - Shakespeare Garden - bought 2 manuals on Rhododendrons & Wild Flowers.  
3 pots for Zone II meeting grasses display - home about 4:30.  Put heat up - very cold - Phoned Joan - says she feels better.
