May 19

1983 - Thursday - 42° at 6AM - Cloudy - some sun in morning - cloudy in afternoon and cold - put heat on - rain at night. To Mass.
Prepared for visit Cornells and Mary Sells here 12-4 - Wes cooked filet steaks on grill. Had cocktails in Solar - warmest place.
Cleaned up and relaxed in evening.

1984 - Saturday - 42° at 5:45 - Keeler Tavern trip to Williamstown. Cloudy. Closed up house - left 7:50 for Congregational Church lot - bus left at 8:35 via Route 22 and 20 for Hancock Shaker Village - tour of barn and interesting buildings - on to Route 7 to Williamstown - toured Clark Museum - checked into Williamstown Inn -  to St Patrick's Church for 5 o'clock Mass - dinner at Williamstown Inn - walk about Main Street - bed.

1985 - Sunday - 47° at 6 AM - Off and on cloudy - cool.   To 8 o'clock Mass.  Robin nest in top of Pinus Flexilis so Wes got out orchard ladder and clipped new growth in half. Prepared for visit of Mary & Eileen & Boo for Mary's birthday celebration - here at noon to five. Eileen brought orchid plant for the McKeon's 50th Wedding Anniversary present - and 10 loaves of wholewheat bread.  We walked Boo - Wes did dishes - Took a short nap and to Mary Luke's at 6:15 for a cocktail

1986 - Monday - 58° at 6 AM. Birds woke me at 5 AM - We have an Oriole who serenades us all day long. Warm, sunny, dry day - nice breeze in evening. 
Wes went for gasoline - bank - put Nynex and Bell Atlantic stock in Safe Deposit - left film at Sturdevants - I then went to Pinchbeck for White Impatiens - Pink Geraniums - Pink hanging Geranium - watered until well water stopped 
Wes spread more leaf mulch and put gravel on Step Garden - Lamb Nursery delivered order!

1987 - Tuesday - 51° at 6 AM - Cloudy - dreary - I worked at Ballard Garden - Edith Meffley only helper as it was Main Street Planting Day - home at 12:20. Pinchbeck delivered 5 Rhododendron Maximum, 1 White Pine and Peat Moss - Wes planted them on North slope, losing one glove in the process - I helped pull burlap off two of the big ones - I weeded Wall Garden, pulling out a lot of yellow violets - deadheading past bloom of Iberis - cut off Pussytoes bloom.  New birdfeeder fell off wire (wire came off tree) broke.


May 20

1983 - Friday - 54° at 7 AM - light rain - .27 in gauge at 8 AM, accumulated to .40 by 5 pm - mist in afternoon. I went to Ballard Garden to meet Madeline but too much rain to work - planted Campanula & Poppy. I stopped at Marcus enroute home. Dr. Puchner phoned Wes - room available in about four weeks for prostate operation. In hospital 7-9 days. After lunch to Stamford to pick up repaired chainsaw - stopped at Washington Evergreen Nursery South Salem - bought 3 plants - put them in on wall garden top - looks good - Wes set 3 of the stones deeper in the gravel.

1984 - Sunday - in Williamstown - left Williams Inn after breakfast for Bennington Vermont - toured the Bennington Museum - went up the Monument overlooking the 1777 Battlefield - walked to First Church Cemetery, admiring old houses - saw Robert Frost grave - Saxton O'Connor gave talk on church - lunch at Brasserie near Potters Yard - bus trip back to Ridgefield - arrived 6 pm - to Rosses for dinner with McKeons and Tempanelli's.

1985 - Monday - 50° at 6 AM - Sun coming up - Very warm windy day.
Left McKeon's orchid at Rosses - Alex will make the gift card - to St Elizabeth Seton - cut candles on pines in half - weeded - pulled up Cotoneasters - home to plant more of the Waldsteinia ternata on Wood Knoll - Wes finished spreading the weed & feed on north grass - watered - deadheaded Foam Flower. Wes to Dr Neligan - BP 130/80 - had wax taken from ear. Joan & Hooker arrived at Eileen's.

1986 - Tuesday - 62° at 6 AM - Cloudy, - light shower during day - not the needed rain. To Mass.
I planted some of Lamb Nursery plants on Step Garden. Wes continued work on deck stone wall. After lunch to Waldbaums and Marcus - Sturdevant didn't have Wes pictures yet. Rosses came at 5:30 for a walk around and drink.

1987 - Wednesday - 48° at 6 AM. Cloudy - cold - Few sprinkles about 3 pm - didn't have to quit work.  
To Mass. Took little trowel & weeder to Alex to paint handles. Wes firmed in yesterday's plantings of 5 Rhododendron and 1 White Pine. I did a wash - ironed - continued transplanting the Ageratum, etc. - grown from seed - Planted Holly from New Jersey GCA meeting Muriel gave me
Wes raked north slope - buried stones round Rhodos - preparatory to spreading leaf mulch.
