July 14

1983 - Thursday - 58° at 6AM - Fair - Sunny & warm but nice drying breeze all day - drying everything
I worked at Ballard nine to noon - home for lunch with Wes who had walked and rested - Phoned Dr. Puckner - made appointment for August 5 - continue pills.  Planted zucchini seeds on cliff bank and lettuce in beds - watered Wood Knoll and wall garden.  Dug Evening Primrose and took them to Louise McKeon, stopping at Anne Tracy's to see raised beds.

1984 - Saturday - 60° at 6AM - Beautiful morning became warm - not too humid as a good breeze.
To Bedients - bought sprayer - shovel for Wes (broke handle of old one moving stone) picnic box - watering
wand - to Ballard to pick up big [[?stone[[ - saw Pinchbeck had delivered 10 more bags of mulch - put them in Greenhouse - home for lunch - nap - Wes finished stone wall around hemlock off Bog Wall.  Where soil was eroding - I watered - moved Jean's Iris to Northeast triangle.
To Ada Franken's for dinner at 7 pm - Moonsons - Tracys - Kellers there.

1985 - Sunday - 68° at 6AM - Cloudy - damp warm humid day.  To 8 o'clock Mass - more people avoiding heat of day.
Wes put clips on deck post to hold new Clematis - its growing well - he repaired knob on laundry door.  I read papers - Early lunch.  To Silverado, Danbury Main Street theatre for 1 o'clock show - very good Western - Home to relax on loungers in Garden Room.  First day did nothing on grounds.  Thunderstorm in night

1986 - Monday - 64° at 6:30 - Foggy - became mostly sunny day - a brief shower in afternoon - alternate beautiful and cloudy.  Wes' leg getting better - he went for a haircut - cultivated emerald gaiety near cliff.  I deadheaded - staked plants down in heavy rain yesterday - cut grass, ignoring rain shower just after started - dug little violets from driveway & planted some on Wood Knoll - found hornet's nest in juniper - town oiled road - We went to Keller Tavern for last part of the annual meeting - male chorus - one lady

1987 - Tuesday - 74° at 6:30.  Dark - cloudy.  Warm humid morning - rain after 5 pm - 1/4 inch
I worked at Ballard Garden in the morning, deadheading, weeding - staking.  Home for lunch.  Wes had finished aluminium frame for propagating box.  After lunch & nap I cut lawn - Wes mixed soil & peat.  Made wall around rhododendron along bog walk, put some on Cardinal Flower & in holes behind Cimicifuga.  I watched Senator Sharpe and Lee Hamilton give final summations at North hearing.


July 15

1983 - Friday - 62° at 6 AM - Partly cloudy.  Re 1982 this day, have had day lilies for over a week.  Muggy day - thunder in afternoon and at 5:15 we had quarter inch of rain in a loud thunderstorm.  Very welcome.  Went to Reclamation - picked up cleaned clothes - Stop & Shop - notepaper at Caldors - hairpins for Herb wreath at Genovese - Lunch - nap - staked perennial garden using wire cages - read papers during storm.  Wes early to bed as having gas pains.

1984 - Sunday - 68° at 6 AM - Sun coming up red.  Mandarin day lily had 2 blooms yesterday.  To 8 o'clock Mass.  Wes worked on Bog - Slope - Planting Holes - rearranging some of the big stones to make it look more natural - brought in some of the Varga's so-called topsoil which they don't want.  I watered (takes time)  Azaleas on Wood Knoll were wilting in heat and humidity.
To Hemlock Hills Lake meeting at 5 - voted for insurance - will have to find a company as Carnall won't take it.  Back home to get our hot dogs & [[?beers/buns]] = had them at lake.

1985 - Monday - 70° at 7 AM - didn't look at 6:30 & slept late.  .60 in rain gauge from last night's storm!
Wes finished putting gravel on the Wood Knoll path.  I pulled out the [[?Amthera]] Mexicali Rosea from top of wall garden - planted it on west facing bank of Wood Knoll - cut grass.  Brought up Poly Podis from cliff off deck - started grubbing out between ledge rocks to see if one joins to another.  Rain after dinner.

1986 - Tuesday - 58° at 6:30 - Beautiful day.  To Mass.  I went to Sweepstakes Meeting at Ricky Harrisons - stopping for gas for lawnmower can, haircut and Grand Union enroute home for lunch.  Wes had dug up Asplesias near cliff path, brought down topsoil and graded that planting bed, resetting the Asclepias.  I edged, cultivated, deadheaded - moved one miniature rose - swept Garden Room

1987 - Wednesday - 59° at 6 AM - Clear - Great change in weather.  Beautiful day - sunny, breezy cool.  To Mass - watered flowers in church.
Wes moved rocks from above mailbox to south side of driveway entrance - I helped at times.  I went to Fox to look for napkins - nothing I wanted - Marcus and bank.  In afternoon, followed Punkie Scott to Pontiac in Danbury.  One of their cars needed repair and John can't drive - too ill.  I took her home.  Gathered cuttings for Propagation Workshop tomorrow.
