July 24

1983 - Sunday - 65 at 6:15 and raining - 1/4 inch - cloudy and drizzle during day. 
To 8 o'clock Mass.  Prepared for visit of Eileen and Mary - here at noon.  Pleasant afternoon - they left early - about 3:15.
Wes took a nap - I cleaned up dishes.
Read papers - had soup - saw episode of "A Town Like Alice".

1984 - Tuesday - 70° at 6 AM - Partly cloudy - a few sprinkles - cleared in afternoon.  To Mass.
Eileen brought up Boo as she is going to Los Angeles - then up to San Francisco - back Saturday.  I picked up Madeline Morrison and went to Ada Franken's at 10:30 with all the picnic sandwiches.  The committee set up chairs and filled the picnic baskets - meeting 12-3.  Home at 4 pm to walk Boo - relaxed on deck - nice breeze there.  Wes said it was very muggy when he worked over the cliff clearing the path of the brush pile.

1985 - Wednesday - 50° at 6:30 - Cool night - slept well.  Beautiful day.
To Safe Deposit with Certificate Portfolio Govt Securities 
Vacuum filters - Dolans (no gravel) Bethel Sand & Gravel where ordered gravel.  Home to deadhead - Wes cleaned up dirt along road to prepare for gravel delivery Friday.  Transplanted Solomon Seal from Bog Path to slope near shed.  I hacked away at grass and weeds on cliff edge of deck - enjoyed Garden Room for a cocktail

1986 - Thursday - 60° at 6 AM.  Sunny, warm, humid.  Wes went to Mass.  I prepared for work at Ballard Garden - good crew - Muriel, Billie, Ann, Carol - Edith, Ricky.  Worked 8:30 to 11:30 deadheading, edging - shopped Stop & Shop enroute home.  Lunch - nap.  Wes had worked on wall around hemlock off south lawn - continued in afternoon.  I deadheaded - watered - cut south grass.

1987 - Friday - 73° at 6 AM.  Cloudy - H-H-H - worse weather than previous days.  To Mass.  Turned over church key and containers to Helen Ross who will arrange flowers this weekend.  Walpole phoned they had made error in estimate - could be $1500 more.  Wes told them to forget it.  He chopped up well area took out a lot of stones - watered North plants - I watered South side - deadheaded - cut south grass.  Wes swept front walk.  We had shopped in morning.  I made blueberry pie - too humid to roll out crust well.


July 25

1983 - Monday - 59° at 6 AM - Foggy - cleared before noon to a beautiful day.
To Squash's to pick up Garden Club program left there for me by Madeline Morrison - to Grand Central - bananas 59¢! didn't buy any as very poor - Bedients for Peters food - home to deadhead - clear out weeds along road in front of dell - took a walk as far as Ned Mountain - Wes felt better in afternoon - very slow progress in improvement.

1984 - Wednesday - 60° at 6:30 - Fair - Walked Boo.  Sprayed Azaleas - Rhododendrons etc., using the new pressure sprayer.  Played golf 10-1:30 - had to wait - put with a father & son (good players)  Most people we had ever seen on course - den glass enclosure for fireplace installed - I cut grass.  We dug up ferns along road near bog - put them under deck and at Bog Hemlock - looked at Grouse's new tool shed - walked Boo - Cool evening on deck - needed sweaters.

1985 - Thursday - 60° at 6:30 - Fair morning, partly cloudy - looked like rain at times.  
Hurricane Bob hit Charleston.  Deadheaded & weeded.  Left at 10:45 for Three Bears, Wilton - (stopped for gas & at bank enroute) for lunch with Bill Kalnay and Jean Hufnagel to plan November 19th meeting and discuss candidates for next year's officers.  Enroute home bought shoelaces and pants for me at Chambers - nap - cut grass - walked about planning future landscaping.  Dinner on deck as quite warm.  Wind in evening.

1986 - Friday - 70° at 6:30 - Sunny, warm, humid.  Packed lunch - to Taylor Rental to inquire about tables etc. for Aug. 3rd luncheon - to bank - Grand Central for milk for lunch - liquor - to Pepsies on Anderson Hill Road, Purchase - walked garden path admired plantings, perennials and some of sculptures - ate our lunch - to Eileen's to leave her picnic box, to Alters for bread - home at 3 pm - nap - deadheaded and watered

1987 - Saturday - 76° at 6 AM - Cumulative heat in morning - terribly humid day - again at 90°.
We worked all day preparing for dinner party, did have our nap at noon.
Rosses - Mannions and Regina and Bob Morris here about 5:45 - drinks on deck - not too bad there - had told everyone to dress informally.  Dinner went well - they left at 11:30.  We washed up silverware only - piling everything else up neatly.
