August 11

1983 - Thursday. 64° at 6 AM - cloudy - light rain in morning - thunderstorm in afternoon.
To Mass.  Packed beans, cucumbers, strawberries, & one zucchini - pulled out the zucchini plant broken in wind - new ones on wall growing but no blossoms there yet.
To Pharmacy in Danbury to pick up Wes' new pills - 54.60!  To Ciccoli TV to order speaker for kitchen - Stop & Shop - picked up bedspread - Youngs for flowerpots - Louise McKeon to take riding pants she wants me to sew braid on.  Eileen phoned - she, Bit and Bridget went to zoo - coming up tomorrow

1984 - Saturday - morning at Asticou Inn.  Very foggy.  At Asticou Inn, Acadia Park - Maine.  Left after breakfast with a picnic lunch - to Ellsworth - to Bangar - took Route 95 there - to go (Mass Pike) to Exit 13 - Framingham - to Howard Johnson Motel on Worcester Road - to 4 pm Mass at St Bridget's Church - stopping for gas enroute.  Had nap - watched Olympics - drink, dinner - bed. 

1985 - Sunday 69° at 6 AM - Cloudy - dark - became mostly fair - very humid - until late afternoon when we heard thunder but no rain here. 
To 8 o'clock Mass.  Wes worked on house/shed path taking chips to South side where Hemlock had been taken out and soil underneath to fill hole on Wood Knoll - some into vegetable bins.  I cultivated shade garden - deadheaded - moved 2 Gentiana septemfida from behind shade garden into back step garden.  To Waccabuc for dinner as guests of Elizabeth Hull - Morrisons there also.

1986 - Monday 70° at 6:30 - Clear - Thunderstorm last midnight - 1 inch rain - wood chips washed away along paths - big gully in front in the shed/ilex border.
Raked chips - swept walks - deadheaded - pulled out & cut back some perennials.  To New England Craft Center, spoke to Mr Giest - ordered pump case - leaf top & frog for garden room pool - Piping Boy and pump case for near pool - After lunch worked on area behind triangle garden - brought up Christmas Fern from deer trail - moved more variegated Hosta & Japanese Fern.  Wes brought down stones for dell path wall.

1987 - Tuesday 55° at 6 AM.
Sun coming up - hurray.  Beautiful day - warm sun no humidity.
I worked at Ballard 8-11:30 with Charlotte Crosley & Edith Meffley - stopping at bank & Stop & Shop enroute home.  Wes had taken down 3 trees from holding bed area.  After lunch & nap we went to Carlsons' Gardens - bought 1 Dexter Great Eastern, 1 Scintellation, 1 Vasey Azalea (Pinkshell) & 1 Azalea Arborescens (Sweet Azalia) placed them in new area at well.  I cut grass.


August 12

1983 - Friday 58° at 6:45 - Slept late.  Light rain.  One inch of rain in gauge in morning - 15/100 more in day.  Cool - wore sweaters.  Prepared for Eileen, Bit, Bridget & Boo here at 11 - had dinner - walked with Boo - they left at 4:15.  We did dishes etc.
Wes made a fire in the den!  Felt good.  I finished sewing braid on riding pants Louise McKeon asked me to do.
Wes made a chart for his many pills - has to take the new one - Gescillin - 2 pills 4 times a day.

1984 - Sunday - had spent night at Howard Johnsons Framingham.  After breakfast to Garden in the Woods - toured Garden - bought wild flower plants - left there at noon via Routes 90 - 86 (now 84) - 84 to Danbury - had picnic lunch at stop on Route 90.  At Marcus for milk at 2:30 - shopped at Airport Vegetable Stand for fruit - everything looked lush at home - 1/2 inch of rain in gauge - Gizella said had heavy rain Saturday night & Sunday - Unpacked - walked around.

1985 - Monday - 62° at 6:30 - Fair - Sun came up during breakfast time.  Beautiful day - warm sun - cool in shade.  I had heartburn during night, so took it easy.  Wrote Joan & Hooker.
Wes took car to Honda Body Shop to inquire about rust removal - can buff and over paint - he went to Pharmacy - Waldbaums and Marcus.  After lunch he dug up two Laurel from West Bank - we moved them to Well/Shed Path area - replanted ferns at base of one - sprayed them.  Watered them well and other plants on Wood Knoll.

1986 - Tuesday - 58° at 6 AM - Sunny beautiful day.  Cool evening.  To Mass.  To Tinker Shop to find it closed - left bedspread at laundry - to Headlines at Branchville for haircut (short) home for lunch.  After nap, moved big Leucothoe at east side of Garden Room to a more back position - put the dwarf laurel from the new pool area in its place - moved Hosta and tiny Hemlock - result was good we thought.  I brought up some Solomon Seal from dell area - put them along cliff path steps.

1987 - Wednesday - 54° at 6 AM - Clear - beautiful day.  To Mass.  Planted Scintellation and Great Eastern Rhododendron and Azalea Vaseyi in area near well - the Sweet Azalea (Arborescens) opposite the Piper.  Later moved several hostas to well area.  Dug out lots of stones at base of big rock - moved ferns there.  Wes picked up gate hinges from Meekers and put a set on one side of gate.
Saw a duck eating hosta above bog at breakfast time - chased him into bog - he caught his leg jumping over fence and fell on his back - ran into Vargas' lot.
