August 17

1983 - Wednesday - 60° at 6:30.  Fair beautiful day.  Wes went to Danbury - had gas grill tank filled, bought milk at Marcus - tailor's closed again - suit pants in there for zipper repair.
We took Billie to lunch at Le Chateau for her birthday - Millicent joined - enjoyable and good meal. 
Home for nap - relaxed on deck with papers and crossword.  Lazy

1984 - Friday - 64° at 6:15 - Clear - Nice to see everything wet again - 2/10 inch.  We have been fortunate with rain. 
To Dr. Neligan's office - nurse took Wes' blood pressure - 130/88 - good - keep up medication.  I left swoe and booklet on benches at Madeline Morrison's - we went to Reclamation - shopped Stop & Shop - bottle of Sherry for Father Tighe - going there tomorrow.  Wes moved more topsoil on north grass.  I went to Union Trust to transfer money from Savings to checking as running low.  Wes transplanted Leucothoe and two wild Hemlocks on South side - we brought up 3 Christmas ferns from Bog - Moved Iris & [[?Muscare]] there also.

1985 - Saturday - 56° at 6 AM - Slept well.  Clear beautiful day.  Eileen came at 7:30 with Boo - Wes minded her while Eileen & I went to New Haven to visit Carolyn & Pete Blackwehl - Carolyn took us to British Art Museum and Yale Art Gallery - Pete had a bad back.  Had lunch at Annie's Forehouse Restaurant - Home at 4:30.  Wes had continued top Wood Knoll path to well.  He was walking Boo when we returned.  Eileen went home.  We relaxed with a drink - dinner - early to bed.

1986 - Sunday - 72° at 6:15 - Foggy - rainy day.  .46 at noon.  Hurricane "Charlie" off North Carolina.  Indoor day - first time in ages.  Read papers thoroughly.  Wes read his Conn. Railroad Book.  Had a Martini for lunch.  Scheduled meeting of Hemlock Hills Assoc. off account rain so we had our hamburger for dinner here.  Stayed up late to watch "The Price" on Channel 13 at 10 pm - a kidnapping in Ireland - Mini series - 2 more nights.

1987 - Monday - 74° at 7 AM - Fair - Breakfast on deck.  Hot and very humid day.
To Stop & Shop - Liquor - Reclamation - Bank & Brunetti
Home to do wash - Wes removed big stones from well area - put edging stones on south side of path - will bury them deeper.  I moved couple of ferns in that area and Solomon Seal - watered.  Made Barbara Sobol's marinade for lamb and Wes cooked Shish kebab on grill - good.


August 18

1983 - Thursday - 68° at 6:30.  Cloudy - light rain - only .05 - cleared enough in afternoon to go out - very humid.  No Mass - Father away.  Worked on Dutch Bulb order - crossword puzzle - read papers.  Early lunch as Ciccioli was to come with kitchen speaker but he later posponed that.  Wes reached bottom on the trail - I watered big hemlocks and lot of other plants on south side.  Moved a Hosta from Wood Knoll to shade garden - put in another of Ellie's Hostas in its place.

1984 - Saturday - 58° at 7 AM - Slept late - Fair cool.  We decided to put off cleaning house until tomorrow when showers predicted, so Wes moved more topsoil on North grass - transplanted another Leucothoe to top of Bog Walk wall - dug the big Hemlock free and balled it.  I moved Iris & Variegated Hosta at South side to new path location - planted a split up Day lily Gizela gave us (made 5 from one) moved Astilbe forward and separated Foxglove in shade garden - watered wilting Wild Azaleas in Wood Knoll - beech tree takes away moisture from them.

1985 - Sunday - 56° at 6 AM - Fog over pond - Clear morning but mostly cloudy day.  No rain - getting very dry.  To 8 o'clock Mass.  Wes walked on clearing along south of Glade Path - Transplanted the Azalea Viscosum that was in wall pocket to top of Glade Path - also moved the Blue Cohosh and lots of False Solomon Seal from below the Bog Wall to North above House/Shed Walk.  Father Tighe stopped by to see our garden enroute his call on Ruth Sharp.  
To Meffley's at 6:30 for dinner - Lillian & David Willis - Mary Beth & Dick Wheeler.

1986 - Monday - 68° at 7 AM.  Cloudy.  Hurricane & flood watch - Hurricane "Charlie" off Cape May.  .20 in gauge at 7:30 and dumped.  "Charlie" went off to sea - cleared here enough in afternoon to go out.  In morning had gone to bank to enquire about service charge on "New" account - went under minimum - picked up tablecloth from Chinese laundry - to Waldbaums.  After lunch & nap lifted plants in way of Wes' new wall - moved them to front of new wall (grass side) put False Anemone into shade garden.  Moved Hostas & ferns.

1987 - Tuesday - 76° at 6 AM - Had fan on all night - not bad sleeping except for leg cramp.  Prepared for work at Ballard Garden - there 8 to 11:45.  Stopped at Stop & Shop for milk, as George Washington Hwy thru traffic closed for bridge replacement.  Wes had dug out big stone on Wood Knoll - too deep & big to move alone but got it out, after a nap.  Put the second Exbury Pink Balloon in its place near Cornus Canadensis.  I cut sough grass and along road.  Wes brought up boards & rollers to move the big stone.  He had sunk the edging stone along path to holding bed.
