September 10 1983 - Saturday - 64° at 6:30 - Cloudy - became fair - hot and humid - dry weather continues Cleaned house - did wash - took all morning Watered - worked at clearing big rock at north side - raised a lot of dust - ground is powder - had to move two ferns. Bichon breeders visiting Eileen for Westchester Dog Show at Lyndhurst. 1984 - Monday - 60° at 6 AM - Partly sunny/cloudy changed quickly from one to another - but no rain I worked at Ballard 8:30-12 - Several members helped - transplanted a day lily and salvia - weeded. Wes put on fertilizer on South grass - planted the three Leucothoe off the wall in Garden Room. After lunch and nap - Wes put coat of stain on the equipment shed - a little light but better than raw wood. I watered until well water stopped - picked beans and strawberries. 1985 - Tuesday - 59° at 6 AM - Dark - gloomy. 1/2 inch for yesterday's rain. To Mass. Light rain, but I went to Ballard - however couldn't work as rain started. Muriel Pederseu there. Went to bank - Stop & Shop. Home - We went to Danbury - renewed Wes' pill prescription - left tablecloth at the Chinese Laundry. Voted for Zoning Board Appeals candidates Hetcher & Grosse - lunch - long nap - Wes in shop - I made Eggplant Lasagna - to Lector Indoctrination at 8 pm. 1986 - Wednesday - 48° at 7:30 - Slept late account last night's meeting - beautiful day - breezy. House chores. Wes cleaned garden room and front walk. Early lunch. I went to bank - Stop & Shop - to Ballard for workshop on Topiary - stuffed a horse - difficult - Carol Schneider followed me to see the garden. George Ventris replaced 2 of the sewing room windows that the vacuum seal had leaked - will return tomorrow for dining room slider & flashing over kitchen-deck slider. 1987 - Thursday - 62° at 6:30 - Fair beautiful day- warm sun - humid working. Joe Yaller dug up - added peat, compost, Super Phosphate - to area front of south wood fence. I dug up most of day lilies behind mailbox - put 5 in new area - 4 at rhubarb patch - 5 between white pine. Moved Hosta - Red bleeding heart - Astilbe into new area from shad garden - will try to make that mostly white. Wes continued work on deer fence north end. Picked up Billie at 5:20 & went to Mary Luke's for a cocktail. Home before 8. September 11 1983 - Sunday - 68° at 6:30 - Hottest day - over 90° here - hot breeze. To 8 o'clock Mass. Watered - tried to stay out of sun. Wind broke wooden tomato stakes - Wes put in iron stakes and we righted four of them - didn't lose too many. Did a towel - mattress pad wash - dried well on outdoor line. To Carol & Bill Stoddard's at 5 for a drink - air conditioning felt good - lots of neighbors there - home at 7 for dinner 1984 - Tuesday - 60° at 6 AM. Fair sunny warm breezy day - hard on transplants. Hurricane Deane off Carolinas - winds up to 130° mph. To Mass. Left at 10:30 with papers and bottles for Reclamation - had washed car - for Norwalk Shore Club. Luncheon of Texaco Retirees - stopped at Food Emporium for a few groceries enroute home - nap - watered new north grass and Wood Knoll plants. 1985 - Wednesday - 55° at 7 AM. Partly cloudy. 4/10 inch rain from last evening's storm. Everything looks nice & wet. Became beautiful fall looking day - very cool - breezy - warm sun. To Hollandia for 3 Juniperus Procumbens Nana - planted them on west slope - returning the Emerald Juniper cuttings to holding bed - also bought a Chrysanthemum for front door - another bag of Aluminum Sulphate to extend cliff path - Wes worked on drain at well - I cut grass - moved False Anenome from below Dell Wall to top of wall garden. To Ruth Sharp's at 5 for a drink. Eve Whitehouse there with 2 Dandy Dinmonts. 1986 - Thursday - 60° at 6 AM - Cloudy - partly cloudy - warm - humid - looked like rain - none. To Mass. George Ventris here to caulk above Kitchen slider to deck and repair kitchen/dining room door. I ironed. Left for Texaco luncheon at Rapp's, Ansonia, Ct., stopping at Stevenson Lumber Co to order another window for Sewing room. Good lunch (dinner) not great ambience. I spoke of our trip to London. Home at 3:30 - Wes took nap - I cut grass - we watered new grass and sod. 1987 - Friday - 60° at 6 AM. Fair morning - cloudy afternoon. To Mass. Wes and I worked at Ballard in the morning - weeding - clipping staking. To bank and Stop and Shop enroute home. After lunch and nap, continued transplanting from shade garden into new fence garden. Wes put Diazinon on grass for grubs - rain predicted so hope timing is right as material has to be watered in.
