September 28

1983 - Wednesday - 52° at 6:30 - Fair beautiful dry breezy day. 
Left at 9 AM for White Plains - ordered 3 window blinds at Macy's - big line! - nutmeg grater and French Purses for girls' birthdays at Bloomingdale's - to Mary's for lunch - bought serving platter at Jensens for Holmden's Anniversary.  Jensens closing out as lost lease -looked in at Lord & Taylor - no year books yet.  Home at 4 PM -nap - tomato juice - cooked Acorn Squash in microwave - 15 minutes.

1984 - Friday - 44° at 6:30.  Light rain - only 1/4 inch rain - glad to have it of course but we need much more.  Cold dreary day.
Up Federal Road to look for Casette for the Holmden's.  Had to make three stops to find Mozart - Neville Mariner. Shopped Waldbaums - Home for lunch - nap.
Transplanted dwarf Spathyfyllum - moved tree Ivy into kitchen - Made tomato sauce - Wes rested his arm - we cleaned up a lot of papers.

1985 - Saturday - 56° at 7 AM.  Electricity still off under 11:30 AM - Used Sterno to make coffee.  Phoned Wright on the damaged trees.  Phoned Howard Castle who brought his portable generator to give the freezer a charge.  So glad when power came back - Started cleanup - picked up loads of sticks - raked grass - cut it to blow remainder of leaves.  Wes cut up big oak limb on deck and more of the one on the road to Grouses.  Wall garden littered with debris.  Rehung bird feeder - cleaned up garden room - put back chairs.  Beautiful day after some morning clouds.  Holmdens phoned to ask how we fared.

1986 - Sunday - 56° at 6 AM.  Dark - poor morning improved a bit in afternoon, so was able to cut grass after lunch.  Prepared table, house and food for Father Tighe, John and Lucienne Hartcorn, here 6 PM to 10:30 - successful evening.

1987 - Monday - 58° at 7 AM - Cloudy- cleared in a couple hours to a warm mostly sunny day.
To town - gasoline - stamps - picked up Chelsea clock - left piece of Agapanthus for Madeline Morrison - left film.  Wes bought 125 feet of 3 foot wire to raise deer fence - shopped for groceries - home for lunch - did wash - watered perennial transplants and propagation plants - dug up two Rudbeckias for Ballard and some Lambs Ears for Susie Ahearn.  Brought in Amaryllis bulbs from holding bed - in poor shape.


September 29

1983 - Thursday - 42° at 6 AM - Dark now until 6:30.  Fair day - dry.  To Mass.  I worked in Ballard garden 9-12 -  shopped Stop & Shop for a few things after.  Wes was spreading the topsoil over septic tank.  After lunch he had one pill prescription refilled - stop for gasoline - Marcus - bank.  I cut grass - what there is of it on North side - we watered white pine well and all plants on North side until pump stopped.

1984 - Saturday - 48° at 6:30.  Cloudy, cleared to a sunny afternoon.
House chores.  Dug up two Japanese Maples and took them to the Tempanelli's with the yellow geranium.  After lunch moved four Emerald Gaiety from North side of house to new Garden Room - scraped up chips to put around the remaining Emerald Gaiety at Pokeweed.  Wes split wood.  We planted Narcissus and tulips from Dutch Bulb order.

1985 - Sunday - 47° at 6 AM.  Beautiful day.  To 8 o'clock Mass.   My first time as Lector. 
Continued cleanup after Gloria - worked all day picking up sticks, mostly  on North side - had to cut off Poke Weed which was broken by tree that hit deck.  I pulled up all the vegetables left, except for zucchini, onion and basil.  Brought in last of Amaryllis.  Dug up white Dahlia - will give that to Greenhouse.  Wes cooked two of the Omaha Steaks on the grill - very good.  I made Orange Cake and Custard.

1986 - Monday - 60° at 7 AM - Cloudy - some sun, warm.  Rug not ready for pickup from Ziegler - bought Muk-Luks for Joan's birthday - groceries at Waldbaums.  Did wash - napkins & tablecloth of last night.  Wes worked on North Slope - we dug out Siberian Iris (huge) from perennial bed - I moved more perennials around.  Mr. Gust brought Piping Boy and set him up at new pool - looks beautiful - adjusted stream of frog at first pool - sprays higher.

1987 - Tuesday - 58° at 6 AM - Became beautiful day.  Quite warm.  I worked at Ballard in morning.  Wes added 50 more feet of 3 foot wire to deer fence Judson and road side.  He rolled South lawn.  I checked the propagation box - no roots - will leave those plants in until Spring.  Pulled up most of Cleome - clipped and swoed.  Watered some of this season's transplants.
