October 4

1983 - Tuesday - 60° at 6 A.M. - Dark - became clear sunny morning - clouded up in afternoon.  To Mass.
Washed Irish sweaters while Wes in shop.  Wes spread fertilizer - I dug onions- brought ivy down from
holding bed - put 3 alpine plants in big rock area.
After lunch and nap, lifted 4 azaleas on Wood Knoll - put peat on bottom and around them.  I took the
Heliopsis and similar plant from compost (Cuccoli's [[?Dad]] not coming) and planted them in Triangle bed, also Platycodon and Yarrow.

1984 - Thursday - 48° at 6:30 - Fair - beautiful day - lovely blue sky and white clouds.  Warmer in afternoon.  No Mass as I worked at Ballard, shopping afterwards.  Wes had shop hour - put up cable for bird feeders - split wood - worked on cliff path.  
We watered new grass and all plants on wood knoll.  Emptied water barrels for triangle garden. 
Walked up road and dug up Blue Asters - gave one to Gizella - put ours in wildflower section near well.

1985 - Friday - 53° at 6:30 - Cloudy, gloomy - some more light rain - mist mostly but not grassing cutting weather.  I went for haircut - gas - bank - cheese shop - Stop & Shop - home for lunch.  Wes had cleaned shop and den thoroughly.  Planted the new Viburnum Tomentosum on Wood Knoll, moving Cotoneaster to more front section.  I put the Lythrum Morden's Gleam in Perennial Garden, pulling out some of the Snapdragon to make room.  Cleaned bird baths and picked up more hurricane debris.

1986 - Saturday - in Quality Inn, Rome N.Y. with Eileen & Boo - Bit - Hooker & Joan.  After breakfast had birthday and anniversary present exchange.  Drove to Mobil Station to gas up - packed - checked out of Quality Inn - to wedding of John Davis and Lynne Parker at St Matthew's Church - Mass at 12 Noon big wedding - on to "The Beeches" for reception at 2 pm.  Left before 5 pm for Syracuse - Holiday Inn at Exit 35 - delay getting into room account Missouri-Syracuse Game.
On to Kelly's in Fayetteville for dinner - all her family there - back to Holiday Inn - bed at 11:30.

1987  Sunday - electricity off at 6:25 AM - Snowing!  About 3 inches here - high wind - trees breaking all over the place.  Couldn't get to Mass - too dangerous with trees over roads.  Snow stopped after lunch - were out to start to clean up.  Wes used saw - cleared three that fell over wall garden - front fence - terrible mess.  Big oak limb on south grass - Wright will have to do that.  Very little damage to shrubs considering all the limbs down.  Wes cooked steaks on grill - candles - Sterno stove.  Early to bed.


October 5

1983 - Wednesday - 57° at 6:30 - Fog over pond.  Mostly fair day - warm - cloudy in late PM - thunderstorm at 6 PM.
Wes took car to Honda for oil change - 42,900 miles.  I defrosted refrigerator - made veal stew.  Transplanted the four azaleas on the south side.  Mary came up for a short visit, gave us wine decanter that Wes' grandfather had.  To Ruth Sharp's at 5 for drink.  Tracy's - Helen and Arlene Ross there - Alex in Philadelphia.

1984 - Friday - 44° at 6:30.  Cloudy morning - fair afternoon.  To Louise McKeon's at 8:30 for Enkianthus cuttings.  Learned Polly Forselli died yesterday.
Did wash - brought in plants - arranged with Gizella to water them, if needed, while we're in Williamsville.  Cut grass - raked leaves off front walk - watered South transplants and new grass
Wes in shop - to Ace for supplies - moved in sewing table from deck.

1985 - Saturday - 54° at 6 AM - Light rain - continued until late afternoon - heavy at noon - 9/10 inch.
We delivered wedding present to Terry Sothing.  Cleaned house - made bed for Joan and Hooker, who arrived before four o'clock, having had good weather for the trip.
To Ridgefield Orchestra concert at 8:30 - good entertainment.

1986 - Sunday - Clearing in Syracuse - at Holiday Inn, Exit 35, with Eileen, Bit - Joan & Hooker.  Had a nice big breakfast together - then all left for home.
Sun came out on Takonic - beautiful views - we stopped at Marcus for milk - home about 4 pm - there was 9/10 in rain gauge from Friday's rain - glad of it as things looked dry to us after all that rain in Rome & Syracuse.  Eileen spent night.  Phoned family - everyone home safely - Mary Farrington ill with bug.  Saw Turkey Vultures (5) flying over pond - landing in trees over Solar

1987 - Monday.  Electricity still off.  Decided to go to Eileen - instead of her coming here - took steaks & fish to put in her freezer - left for Lock Haven via Palisade Parkway to Route 80 - all the way to Route 220 & Lock Haven - had nice lunch enroute - color in hills good - beautiful day.  Arrived about 3:45 - Joan & Hooker there - Neil also - Sally came later with Robin - dogs got along well - Dinner - good talk - bed.
