October 20

1983 - Thursday-40° at 6:30 - Cloudy morning became beautiful cool sunny day. No Mass as Father away. I went to Ballard Garden - final work day for Garden Club followed by luncheon I did a lot of transplanting. Home at 2 pm - Wes had worked in shop. His side gradually getting better. Put up second birdfeeder on chain at south side. Chickadees found it right away. Planted Burpee bulbs - Daystemon Tulips, Pheasants eye Daffodils -Leucojum Vernum. Took walk to Scodon.
     
1984 - Saturday - 62° at 6:30 - Dark - Mist overnight - nothing measureable - disappointing. Cloudy in morning - but beautiful sunset.
Gizella and I took the flowers to church - then Wes and I went to Ridqefield - Kerosene - bird food at Youngs - picked up meat from Brunetti - cheese shop Stop & Shop - home - Made chicken rolls - lunch nap - out to blow leaves - rake - making big piles at North & along Bog Path - watered - Phoned Holmdens in evening.

1985 - Sunday - 52° at 6:30 - Dark. Partly cloudy Cool - windy. To 8 o'clock Mass. Planted the four rock garden plants - quite a job finding places for them - took out a lot of the pussy toes and planted that on front bank, after lunch raked leaves - Wes used the portable leaf blower - did a good job on wood knoll and porch to shed - Chased two deer from that area at washup time. To Waccobue at 5:30 - dinner guests of Elizabeth Hull. Morrison's anniversary (23rd actually) Tracy's

1986 - Monday. 40° at 7:15. Good to sleep late Beautiful morning, and day. Ironed tablecloth - made shopping lists - left Bulova watch at Craigs. shopped for groceries, liquor, paper napkins at Copps Hill - ordered cake at Taste of Paris for Sunday. After lunch raked leaves along road - cleaned out bog course - moved Dwarf Andromeda and Bog Rosemary to Piper pool area - over cliff to cut maple suckers from tree

1987 - Tuesday - 45° at 6:30 - Dark. Mostly cloudy day. Wes drove me to work at Ballard Garden - he then went to Reclamation. Markers for rail supports for upper gate - paint for fence - had a haircut & shopped Waldbaums. We finished Ballard Garden work for the season. Jane [[?]] came and held a Horticulture meeting at the greenhouse. Wes returned to pick me up. We painted the south end of the fence - gallon of stain used up halfway there. Color a little lighter than we wanted

October 21

1983 - Friday - 32° at 6am. Fair. cold beautiful day. Packed for trip to city - closed up house - left at 11 o'clock - FDR Drive all the way to the end - Vista Hotel at West Street and World Trade Center - Room 1112 overlooking the bay - very comfortable and refreshing. Walked Esplanade and to South Street Seaport - lots of shops - more under construction - had coffee and Russian coffeecake - back to hotel for dinner in Harvest Room-

1984 - Sunday - 52° at 6 AM - Mostly cloudy - warm. To 8 o'clock Mass. Spent day preparing for Timpanelli's and Kellers - here for dinner at 5pm - It was a sort evening as they left at 7:50 to see the Reagan/Mondale debate at their homes. It was a successful evening. We watched the debate - hope it helps Mondale. Put dishes in dishwasher - hand washed the silver pots - old plates. To bed at 11 o'clock.

1985 - Monday - 58° at 7am - Clear - beautiful day. To Ridgefield to buy gasoline for car and can - bank Stop and Shop. I transplanted the Primula Kewensis & Obconica into 2 1/2" pots - found that two green trays would not fit under new plant light stand unfortunately. Wes in shop then started up leaf blower and blew leaves on South Side - rolled out ground mole - I pulled up begonias cut off some Hosta at tree along road. To Crosby & Hawsie Nash's at 6:40 - dinner for Mrs. Libby Oliver of Williamsburg who will demonstrate flower arranging tomorrow for garden club. Home at 10:30

1986 Tuesday - 38° at 6:30. Dark & cold. Became a beautiful day. Wes to Mass. I prepared for Ballard Work. Good crew so finished for the season except for a few still-growing plants. Wes had taken down beech on Wood Knoll. After lunch he continued cutting down small trees in the bog area. We cut them up and dragged them to the pile up the road. Called Joan to wish her Happy Birthday

1987 - Wednesday. 56° at 8:15 after breakfast. Some rain during night - raingauge not up account fence painting. Electricity went off for 4 hrs - 20 mins during night. To Mass. Shopped - birdfood - cleaners - birthday cards. to bank Marcus - Paintstore - more paint for fence - left tablecloth at laundry. Off and on showers - no outdoor work - finished reading piled up papers. Wes balanced checkbook - I made leek & potato soup, using Edith Meffley's leeks.
