November 15

1983 - Tuesday - 36° at 6:15 - Cloudy - rain in late afternoon To Mass.  Man supposed to wrap pipes in crawlspace but put it off until tomorrow.
We left at 11 o'clock for gasoline and on to Heritage Village - luncheon of Texaco Retirees Club - home at 3:15 - nice nap - Wes set up fire - read.
Eileen phoned J K McKinley staying on until end of '86 -

1984 - Thursday - 28° at 6:15 - overslept a half hour. Clear - rushed breakfast before 7:30 Mass.
Left at 9:30 for Altmans - lots of people shopping - bought sheet and pillowcases - Bloomingdale's - no picnic box for Holmden's - bought alarm clock for Wes' bedside table - had soup and milk - on to Atchley for my 1:30 appointment Dr Wiedel - on way home at 2:30 - here at 3:45 - nap - cocktail and dinner - enjoyed "Rumpole" at 8 pm.
I had good report from Dr Wiedel - made appointment for next year - Nov. 13th - down town - 2 pm.

1985 - Friday - 37° at 6 AM - Another beautiful sunrise. Caught another mouse in kitchen drawn - that's the 5th!  Fair, breezy - increasingly cold day.  House chores - checked ferns for scale - a terrible job - Wes in shop.  Out to pick up all hoses - put them in crawlspace - put in couple of W77 pots & Mary Buckley's dahlia tuber. Raked leaves.
To "Needles" at 1 pm to get help on extra stitch in knitting. Cleaned up brush and leaves along road near line with Judson's - looks neat. Dressed formally, to Rosses at 7 pm.  Alex drove to Silver Spring C.C. for testimonial dinner for Dr. Ted Safford - Conn. Family Physician of Year.

1986 - Saturday - 26° at 7AM - Fair - then partly cloudy. Cleaned house - went to Marcus and bank. After lunch Wes continued chipping leaves in the dell. We took ice from pools to remove the leaves. The ice was one inch thick in South pool - surprised us. I made chicken casserole for tomorrow and apple tart.
Caught #9 mouse in flour drawer - none in the cutlery drawer this morning.

1987 - Sunday - 32° at 6:15 - Fair - a beautiful day. To 8 o'clock Mass.
Uncovered the Frog Pool - raked and brushed leaves from the Garden Room. Leaves very wet - raked front walk. Early lunch - to Ridgefield Cinema to see "Princess Bride" - a fairy tale - cute.
Pat Morgan here at 4:45 to collect for St. Elizabeth Building Fund - a community center & garage at Rectory location.


November 16

1983 - Wednesday - 47° at 7AM. Light rain - 9/10 IN. in gauge at 8:30 - cleared to a nice afternoon.
The man to wrap the pipes came about 7:40 - surprised us. Job finished. Wes to McKenzie - had some corrections made in the saw. I picked leaves off wall garden plants, pricked out seedlings from driveway - brought gravel to place along wall - to Pinchbeck to pick up tulips which finally arrived - Called G.C. members - raked leaves from front walk and above rain gauge. Wes talked while I went to Pinchbeck.

1984 - Friday - 42° at 6:30 - Clear.
To Ridgefield to Bank - Brunetti - bought Igloo picnic box for Holmden's Christmas at Ridgefield Hardware - on to Pound Ridge for burlap - to North Stamford to leave the daylilies Terry Keller gave us to deliver to Father Tighe. Home via Long Ridge Road & Bedford Village - Cut grass. Lunch - nap - Shredded a big pile of leaves at the shed - that area is cleaned up now. Beautiful day - sunny & cold.
Eileen is on Jury Duty.

1985 - Saturday - 32° at 7AM - Gloomy - Slept late. Caught the 6th mouse in kitchen drawer - despite the cover over the exhaust fan - must have been inside. Caught #7 mouse in the evening.
House chores. - Wes went to bank & Marcus. We left for Stamford Marriott at 11:45 - Rock Garden Society Plantsman Lecture - Ellie Spingarn speaker - good slides - gift plant of Erica Carnea "Springwood White" - met Hedy Wegres of Branchville Road - sat with Joan Lee Faust & Ron & Nancy Chute of Darien - Home at 4pm - Nap. read papers - heavy rain & snow.

1986 - Sunday - 35° at 6:30 - Mostly fair day - a little milder. To 8 o'clock Mass.  Prepared lunch for Mary and the Cornels here at 12:15 to 4 pm - Good visit.  Wes had made a fire in the livingroom
We cleaned up and tried to take a nap but couldn't relax enough. Read papers

1987 - Monday - 30° at 7 AM. Fair - beautiful day. Wright Tree men (3) showed up before 8AM. Cut off damaged limbs on trees along road, using the bucket - also the top of oak above wall garden. They worked over cliff - Wood Knoll, behind wood pile south side - considerable damage to rhododendron, dwarf laurel - leucothoe there. Wes blew leaves - uncovered the Piper Pool - raked at shed area - raked lawns - bog walk
