November 17

1983 - Thursday - 38° at 6:30 - Cold, blustery - few snow flurries.  To Mass.  Had 8:45 appointment with Dr. Yanity - both had teeth cleaned & xrayed - come back Dec. 1st.  I went to Greenhouse with the tulip bulbs - sorted them - marked pots, etc. - some girls came to plant.  Wes went to bank & then joined me.  Tried to have pictures taken for passports - made appointment for tomorrow.  Shopped Grand Central - home for lunch & nap. Raked leaves.  Cut off day lilies at cliff - Bud Wright here to discuss tree cutting.

1984 - Saturday - 32° at 6:30 - Clear - sunny - beautiful cold windy day - not outdoor work weather.  House chores.  Finished estimating 1984 tax figures - will make copy on Monday for Krawchick.  Wes in shop - not successful on tenderer tank cover.  To record potted all Dutch Bulb Co. bulbs yesterday and took them to upstairs storage yesterday.  
To Mary Luke's for a drink at 7 pm and then to Community Center for Garden Conservation Trust Dinner.  Home at 11 pm.

1985 - Sunday - 45° at 6:30 - Clearing - 1 1/2 inches of rain from yesterday.  To 8 oclock Mass. 
Nice quiet day doing what we wanted.  Wes in shop.  I ironed then went outdoors to cut down the Blue Salvia - a great plant this year - rake leaves - cut down Siberian Iris at South Dell Wall.  Lunch - nap - more leaf raking - cleaned up wall garden - put fertilizer on deciduous shrubs.  Phoned Bit, feeling better but still dizzy.  Will go to doctor again.

1986 - Monday - 39° at 6:30.  Caught #10 mouse in garage - trap in flour drawer not sprung but cheese gone.  Caught #11 mouse in kitchen drawer 7:15 AM!
To Youngs for bird food - oil - burlap - mouse traps (giving 10% off) holder for lamp lights for Mary Luke - forgot the electric receptacle unfortunately - home to do outdoor chores - Wes continued chipping leaves in dell - I cut off remaining perennials and maidenhair ferns - emptied the rain barrels to fill the pools and water azaleas - Cut grass with lower setting for last time - spread hollytone - 3 bags.

1987 - Tuesday - 46° at 6:30.  Cloudy - off and on sunny mid-morning - rain at night.
Ed Wright plus helper here at 8 - worked until 3 pm - finished until they burn brush over the cliff this winter.  I went to bank, Marcus & Waldbaum.  Wes blew leaves - cleaned up on Judson line - a big mess.  I went to Dr. Barbara Joseph, gynecologist in Ridgefield - OK - wait for Papp test results.  Nice young doctor.  To Lector workshop at 8 pm in church - home 9:30.


November 18

1983 - Friday - 32° at 6:30.  Fair - nice day not as windy.
Had pictures taken to renew passports - to Brunetti to order chicken for Thanksgiving - to Reclamation - Stop & Shop - to Dr Neligan at 11 o'clock - Wes' blood pressure 160/88 - no medication - time will heal rib.  Home for lunch - nap - took the mile walk - raked leaves from Juniper and dell path.  Ralph Cormier looked at floor in dining area - will call on weekend.

1984 - Sunday - 31° at 6:30 - Cloudy - cold wind.  Rain & sleet predicted for the night.
To 8 o'clock Mass.  Wes in shop - not successful yet on tender tank cover.  I did wash - ironed.
We put outdoor grill in garage - emptied the wood rain barrel and put that under deck.  Took in hose guides - watering cans.  Cut off Aruncus, Siberian Iris and Day lilies - raked up leaves from flower beds.  Picked up loads of acorns.  Enjoyed "Barchester Chronicles"

1985 - Monday - 34° at 6:30.  Fair - beautiful day.  In the 50's.  Wrote to Joan & Bit.  Ordered cheese for Ross' Christmas
House chores and shop hour.  Then out to work on leaves - Wes chipped (shredded) the huge pile of leaves at the shed - took him all day - we covered the pile with plastic to keep off unshredded leaves.  I cut off second Blue Salvia - raked behind shade garden - raked down dell path - made labels - swept Garden Room.

1986 - Tuesday - 40° at 6 AM.  Cloudy - Pretty sky when sun came up - pink streaks in the clouds.
To Mass.  Wes went to Wickes for a board to hang the towel bar in shop john - present bar pulling from wall.  I picked up Helen and went to Bollie Hoffman's for Garden Club meeting - on Bonsai - shopped Stop & Shop enroute home - lunch - nap.  Wes finished chipping leaves in dell - moved machine to shed - finished leaves there.  Raked near wall garden = I dug up Wall garden plants for the Greenhouse.

1987 - Wednesday - 60° at 6:15 - Clearing - Caught 3 mice in kitchen drawers.  Beautiful day.  To Mass.  I planted Cragford narcissus in Ballard Garden with Peggy Ryan - Wes cut down two dead dogwoods and another leaning tree in bog.  We moved logs from hemlock (piled there by Wright) to join others in bog - had been resting on Solomon Seal.  Picked up Rosses at 3:30 - stopped at Salem Center for parking tickets and on to Purdy's where they caught 4:23 train to NYC.
