December 1

1983 - Thursday - 33° at 6 AM - Fair and cold. 
To Mass. To Ridgefield at 9 - I had a haircut at 9:30. Wes bought bird food at Youngs. Then we went to Dr. Yanity - Wes had three teeth filled - I had one - glad we didn't have to have them capped - but that may come. Unexpectedly Rolland Cormier came to repair dining room floor - hurray! Put pad back under rug and replaced furniture. Wes in shop, not successful.  I polished tables in den

1984 - Saturday - 37° at 6:30 - Had shower overnight - Cloudy - Not measurable rain - cleared in afternoon
I went to Dean's Sweater sale - too many cars and people to get near Kenosia Avenue. Made pear tart - custard didn't gell. To Family Y dedication at 11 AM - didn't stay for lunch - beautiful new pool there. Substituted Satellite Feeder at kitchen window for flat feeder as too many finches in latter. Wes did not have success in shop. To 5 o'clock Mass followed by supper - for all the church volunteers - enjoyed seeing Sheen family - Tom looks good after his heart bypass.

1985 - Sunday - 36° at 6 AM - Dark - Rain supposed to continue - it did but mostly mist - damp - cold
To 8 o'clock Mass. Quiet day. Read papers - did work wash - knitted - few mending jobs. Wes worked in shop.
Channel 13 having membership drive. I watched "Tripods" while knitting.

1986 - Monday - 22° at 7 AM. Fair. Loads of birds. Saw the Grosbeak again. Cold with a brisk wind. Wes went for a haircut - chicken wire and stakes. I washed and ironed, joined Wes after lunch to put wire against deer - encircled the Wood Knoll - the three arborvitae before running out of wire again.
Not too cold to work in afternoon - wind let up - but we quit at 4 pm account cold hands. Squirrel has found a way to get to tube feeder - dropping from wire.

1987 - Tuesday - 34° at 7 AM - Clear - Sun 7:00/4:29. Perfectly beautiful morning. Wes finished chipping the leaf pile at the shed - we carried the pile from the well area to the chipper & Wes did that. I put 3 wheelbarrow loads of leaf chips under fence left of entrance (the new garden) to fill up slope & keep fence clean. We went to Cobbs Mill, Weston, for Texaco Retirees luncheon - nice time - good food - returned via Squash's for this pen refill - Oatmeal from Gran Central (2.59)  Saw trees taken down in Ballard Park.

December 2

1983 - Friday - 24° at 6:30 - Fair - 34° in Solar - forgot & left Eileen's white chrysanthemums in there but they didn't freeze.
I shopped Brunetti, Stop & Shop, & Ridgefield Hardware - for cable clamps to hang Thistle Feeder - wrong size but Wes hung it anyway. We put garden tools & base of sun shade in crawlspace - brought out snow shovels & rakes to garage - put outdoor grill in garage - couldn't start Lawnboy [[Lawn-Boy]] to empty its gasoline - moved soil from veg beds to back of perennial and along stone wall.

1984 - Sunday. 34° at 6:30. Clear until late afternoon - good to have a sunny day for our guests. Prepared house and luncheon for Coggeshalls and Hartcorns here at 12:30 to 4:30. Pleasant visit. Luncheon (Lemon-Almond Chicken) turned out well.
Cleaned up - read papers. Enjoyed the last two episodes of "Barchester Chronicles" - given back to back. A delightful series - could see it all over again.

1985 - Monday.  50° at 7 AM - Cloudy - some rain during the day - suddenly and heavy when I was outdoors. Emptied one rain barrel - the big wood one about half when the rain came. Wes stretched out garage hose & drained it down. Watered Fuchsias in crawlspace. To Da Silva Upholstery after lunch - looked for material for living room draperies - he had shoulder operation so have plenty of time to decide - Wes in shop - washed hair - knitted. Strong winds at evening - temperature dropped to 34°

1986 - Tuesday - 28° at 6 AM - Dark. Cold, breezy cloudy day - rain started about 4 pm - continued all night with high winds. To Mass. To Stop & Shop - Youngs for more chicken wire - bank - Keeler Tavern for the December Lunches - Alex and Helen joined - home for nap. I went out to fill feeders - empty green plastic water barrel - couldn't break ice enough in the wooden barrel to empty that - planted second Baby Scarlet Amaryllis - Wes made hook for Thistle Bird Feeder.

1987 - Wednesday - 40° at 6 AM - Snow flurries until 9 AM, then cleared to a not bad day.  
To Mass. When it cleared we decided to go to Stamford Town Centre - bought peppermill for Eileen at Brookstones - floor mat for Shop Johnny and navy gloves for me at Macy's - pleated wine skirt at Jaegers - had lunch there - home for a nap - Ann Nappa phoned Mr Long would not be up before Christmas - we went to Community Center for Champagne reception to view Christmas trees - Home at 7 PM for dinner - early to bed.
