April 5

1988 - Tuesday - 45˚at 7 AM - Fair - Two Canada geese flew over house to land in pond. Beautiful day. Wes went to Ace for a die and drill. I raked leaves from front of wood knoll. To Texaco Harrison for meeting of Connecticut Retiree Club - wonderful beef (dinner!) talk by Carl Davidson - Home at 3:15 - Wes had to return to Ace to get the correct die - I picked up more leaves. The Bloodroot is out along the Bog Path! Beautiful Crab Tree is breaking - wild ginger coming out. Eileen & Bit went to Wave Hall and Cloisters.

1989 - Wednesday - 52˚ at 6AM - Foggy - Showers predicted - however, we were lucky - no rain until after 5 pm. Left at 8:10 for Purdys - took 8:48 train - Grand Central at 10 o'clock -To 101 Park Avenue - new office of Texaco and Mr Long - admired them. To Dr. Espy for 11:30 appointments - office jammed - noisy little child gave me a tummy ache - my eyes fine - new prescription but don't need to fill it - Wes to put drops in left eye also - his film caused by contact - lunch at Oyster Bar - 1:58 train to Purdys - home 3:30.      

1990 - Thursday - 33˚ at 5:30 - Sky clearing - mostly sunny day - first good day in a long time.
Left at 7:30 for Atchley - 9:30 appointments with Drs. Puchner and Jacobs - both had good reports. Stopped at Marcus for milk and the bank with a deposit.
After lunch Wes in shop. I made bran muffins - outside to uncover Heuchea from salt hay and leaves and pine needles from Trailing Arbutus - buds formed on it

1991 - Friday - 44˚ at 6 AM. Cloudy - cleared a little but mist in afternoon - not the forecasted rain. To Mass. To Stop & Shop - lunch -nap.
Wes turned on garden water. Picked up all the stones - cut leucothoe branches of yesterday's transplant - brought down soil to fill hole. I transplanted Galex on Wood Knoll - put [[Koelena?]] blanca (little grouse) near walk to well. Bloodroot coming out - Picked daffodils for Sunday

1992 - Sunday - 29˚ at 6:15 - Change to Daylight Savings Time - hard to get up. Big Raccoon on top of new feeder - thats what has been making it crooked - will have to bring it in at night. Sun 6:32-7:25. Not as good a day as forecast. To Mass at 8 o'clock. Wes paid bills and contributions. I phoned Bit - Joan & Hooker enroute Wittells - Kelly in Georgia. Wes called Mary. Picked up repaired firehose lamp - set it up again in den. Took cages from three azaleas in wildflower garden & cleaned out mulch - returned cages against deer.

April 6

1988 - Wednesday - 39˚ at 6:30. Beautiful - fog over pond. Bit got home from Eileen's today. No Mass as we took 9:23 train from Purdy's - appointments, with Dr. Espy at 11:30. Wes drop prescription changed - was OK - Lost dog enroute Dr. Weidel's at 109 E. 67 St for 1:30 checkup - all ok - come back in a year - subway to 86th Street & walk to Met. Museum of Art to see pictures from Russia (Leningrad) Hermitage Museum - beautiful - subway from 77th St to Grand Central - 4:15 train with an oatmeal cookie. Train wreck on New Haven - lots of people in Grand Central affected

1989 - Thursday - 50˚ at 6 AM- Cloudy - foggy, misty day - off and on light rain. Inch of rain in gauge at 8 AM. To Mass. I went to Greenhouse to work on plants for GCA Plant Exchange - to bank - for gasoline - and Pinchbeck for Peters food - Sofer spray - labels and a few onion sets. Wes in shop. Did a wash after lunch - knitted - Wes helped wind last hank of wool - don't know whether I'll have enough to finish. Walked about late afternoon planning for transplants but rain made it uncomfortable.

1990 - Friday - 42˚ at 8 AM. Cloudy - Breakfast after Mass - overslept - off & on in clouds - snow predicted tonight! To Mass. Vic Grenier & brother here at 11:30 to wash windows. We had gone to Stop & Shop - then moved all plants away from windows. Joe Keller came to go over work to make raised bed on north cliff. After lunch outdoors to plant Primula Wexford White in bog garden It was delivered today by White Flower Farm - cleaned up that area. 

1991 - Saturday - 52˚ at 6:30 - Fair - to be unseasonably warm - it was - over 70˚. Wes put fan in Solar and front screen door on. Pulled Solar shades and opened the skylights.
To cleaners. Stop & Shop (Ridgfeld) picked up Cornus Kousa from St. Stephen's Church Yard - Garden Club sale very well organized - planted it on South Slope - Wes brought down soil to fill hole there. I made a lemon pie for tomorrow's lunch - cleaned house - set table

1992 - Monday - 38˚ at 7 AM - Good to sleep in - church mission. Sunny. Sun 6:31-7:26. Put new birdfeeder together again & set it out - a nuisance acct. raccoon. Beautiful day - best to date. Made up guest beds - made lists of meals, shopping etc. To Mass at twelve - church mission. Worked outdoors after nap. Wes cleaned up Piper pool - loaded with leaves - very smelly. I cleaned up wall gardens - deer damage and seems to be a lot of winter dieback. I went to talk for Lectors - Eucharistic ministers at 7, so we had dinner early - home at 8 pm.
