April 21

1988 - Thursday - 43° at 7 AM. Cloudy - cleared to a sunny day. Quite cool. I went to Ballard - trees delivered by Rosedale - Committee decided on placement - to Pinchbeck for fertilizer following - Home before 11 - Wes had transplanted leucothoe from well area to lower spot - We put Japanese maple in its place - moved down another maple - moved a Eunonymous [[euonymus]] corky bark from inside to outside road fence - moved down a Jersey thin -

1989 - Friday 38° at 6 AM.  Fair.  To Mass.
I went without breakfast and took blood count tests at Strook/Danbury Hospital - put Northeast Utilities Certificate in safe deposit box - Pharmacy for Wes eye drop and Quinine for my leg cramps - few groceries at Waldbaum's - lunch - nap - Wes finished chipping the leaves at shed.  I transplanted the Monkshood and moved the New England Aster.  To Billie Newell's at 5 for a drink.

1990 Saturday 52° at 7 AM - Raining - lightly - 6/10 in all - cleared at evening.
To Ridgefield supply - bought a wooden top for the well "edifice"
Wes had shop time - relocated one squirrel #21 - another one wouldn't go into trap
I worked up information for GCA plant exchange on Clethra and Aquilegia.  Made bran muffins & tavern bars.

1991 Sunday - in Baltimore - light rain - in bus to Fort McHenry - good movie - to Baltimore Museum of Art - great building - guided tour - lunch in their restaurant - good curried chicken salad - to "Homewood" - home of Charles Carroll (gift of father Charles Carroll of Carrolton) on grounds of Johns Hopkins University.
bus trip home was good - glad we weren't driving in rain. Driver John repaired windshield wipers with elastics.
In house at 8:35 - Eileen stayed over night - we were greatly surprised & disappointed at end of "House of Cards"

1992. Tuesday - 52° at 6 AM.
Very foggy. To Mass. Worked at Ballard Garden first time - short as started to rain just after we planted 3 climbing Hydrangea on back wall.
After lunch we cleaned leaves from wood knoll - a big job - half done by quitting time. Dug up rest of Aquilegia in upper bed - put fern along east path off laurel bed - will plant remaining two in perennial bed.

April 22

1988 - Friday - 33° at 6 AM. Fair - windy-dry-quite cool- down jacket needed in morning.
To Mass. Wes transplanted 3 laurel- plus a shoot from one - from Wood knoll to well/shed walk--can now call it Laurel Path. I transplanted alchemilla and Begonia from knoll to perennial & shade garden. Cut grass - north and south. Planted onion sets.
Moved 3 daylilies from near rhubarb to fence behind mailbox. To Waccabue at 7 pm, Rosses driving, as guests of Sattlers for seafood buffet.

1989. Saturday - 38° at 6:45. Beautiful - cool - became windy and cold late in afternoon.
Wes did more work on leaves at shed - chipping them. I transplanted Sedum autumn Joy and moved some perennials to forward spots. Put all seedlings
in the side terrace in the sun. To Coggeshalls at 12:10 stopping for gasoline enroute. John has Parkinson's - looked their best didn't seem too ill. We had a pleasant visit.
Home at 5:15 - covered some transplants - freezing expected - 
returned seedlings to Solar - looked okay.

1990 - Sunday - Earth Day - 44° - clearing - perfectly beautiful day - up to 68° - To 8 o'clock Mass.
Wes brought wheelbarrow loads of manure compost to extension of shade garden and front of Joe's garden - spaded it in. I started cultivation of gardens - put on fertilizer. To the Y after lunch to see Earth Day Exhibits - dropping off #22 squirrel enroute.
To Billie Newell's at 5 for a cocktail party - home at 7. Left seedlings on terrace all day and overnight.

1991 - Monday - 42° at 7 AM - Light rain, over 2" of water in gauge - Eileen left for home after breakfast. I worked at Ballard Garden - put on fertilizer in the rain
Shopped Stop & Shop - to bank. Home for lunch. Wes had balanced checkbook. Planted 3 WFF Tiarella wheryii [wherryi] along wood knoll path - Wes took out 2 big stones - had to leave
one in place. Planted 10 each Bottle Gentian and Joe Pye Weed in Wild Garden after Wes put wheelbarrow load of compost there

1992 - Wednesday 58° at 7 AM. Cloudy - Rain during night. Light rain in morning but could work. To Post Office for stamps - still 29¢ - S&S.
and Marcus. Moved Juniperus procumbens nana from left of deck - north side - to top of Tony Ongaro wall - put willow leaf eunonymous [[euonymus]] in their place. Wired the upper & lower wire of deer fence along road. Removed wire fencing from taxus at north side of house - hope deer don't get in. Wes went to Ridgefield Supply - checked fence wire, but didn't buy - bought few supplies
