May 3

1988 - Tuesday - 42° at 6 AM - Mist - but cleared mid-morning to a sunny, good day. 
I worked at Ballard 8:30-noon - good area - spread fertilizer and chips on 2 front beds - picked broken branches from tree lilac - discussed bush cutting for GCA annual meeting - Stopped for gas & groceries enroute home. Wes had transplanted hemlock from Wood Knoll to South area behind wood pile. We moved ferns behind shade garden - where Tony Ongaro will build wall - to well area. Joe Keller stopped by for a walk around - so did Peggy Ryan re cuttings for GCA.

1989 - Wednesday - 47° at 6 AM - Fair - cool breezy day - good for working. Tony Ongaro finished wall behind rhododendron/pieris - looks great. Wes raised walk into dell alongside blueberries - we dug out two more Hostas that showed up there - put them with others at well [[due?]] - brought down a variegated Hosta for other side of path near blueberries Gave white old fashioned bleeding heart to Gizella and put one outside dell fence along road. Moved red bleeding hearts to Piper area. Gave tomato and Coreopsis Early Sunrise plants to Gizella. Howard Castle came and Freddy Pool works again

1990 - Thursday. 40° at 6 AM. Clear - beautiful day - not the rain predicted. To Mass. To Reclamation, Bank, Pinchbeck to order peat  & wood chips - on to White Plains Bloomingdale - bought a Bistro Table for Solar - ate lunch there - Nobels where we were shocked at prices - especially for the wild flowers - and thought azaleas were in poor condition - bought 3 Azaleas - home to plant them at well area - Moved a Leucothoe down hill near shed. 

1991 - Friday - 46° at 6 AM. Cloudy - windy - cold - not too good a day for weather. To Mass. Returned pair pants to LL Bean from Postoffice - shopped for groceries and had Wes' eye drops renewed. Planted last of Narcissi I wanted to move. Wes spread pine bark mulch on compost path. Drilling a hole thru urn - now I can plant in it. I cut off more fern frongs [[fronds]] - seems that job will never be finished. 

1992 - Sunday - Sunny, breezy. beautiful day Helen Ross spent night with us. Breakfast at seven. To 8 o'clock Mass - Helen left from church for her home - We changed clothes - to Eileens and she drove to N.Y. Botanical Garden for their 101st birthday celebration - gardens beautiful - lots of people but not too crowded champagne lunch at Snuff Mill - home about 4. nap as very tired - did crossword - light supper Tom Hanley phoned from Florida - they can't visit enroute north - maybe we can go to Ticonderoga

May 4 

1988 - Wednesday - 42° at 6 AM - Fair - beautiful day nice and warm. To Mass. Did a wash. Transplanted 3 more Christmas ferns from behind shade garden to North Slope - Took papers to Reclamation and rest of records to Thrift Shop - left film for developing. Home for lunch and nap. I cut grass - Wes spread wood chips on “well garden" Cleaned up behind shade garden - decided to move 2 Leucothoe from "Leucothoe Bank" to North Slope - [[strikethrough]] Moved [[/strikethrough]] Marked "Dolls Eyes" in Big - have 5. 

1989 - Thursday. 40° at 6 AM. Fair - little plants didn't freeze on terrace overnight. A beautiful day. high sixties and sunny. Tony Ongaro started the chimney work. I worked at Ballard Garden - first time - Sherryl Taylor worked - lots to do - arranged with Parks & Rec to move boxwood. Wes cleaned space under shed fence preparing to painting. Bought paint supplies - shopped Waldbaum’s - bananas 79¢ a lb. Sherryl Taylor came to admire Rhododendron Carolinianum. Cut grass as rain reported tomorrow. 

1990 - Friday - 50° at 6 AM. Cloudy - To Mass - Decided to work outdoors early before predicted rain - rain never came until 5 pm so we were outside - bed never was changed until evening! Put in the two Carolina Rhododendron grown from cuttings last July. Wes took out big stone from planting bed near parent plants. Moved ferns to fill stone cracks. Brought down Spruce Bridle Wreath (cutting also) from holding bed &  planted it at well area. Rocknoll and Crownsville orders arrived - put barefoot plants in pots - Trillium in poor condition. 

1991 - Saturday  - 42° at 6 AM. Fair - perfect day. Wes went for 4 more bags of Pine Bark mulch and finished the path to the wild garden and path to North Grass. I planted the Tiarella Wherryi off Step Garden/well path. Wes put leaf mulch on Azalea Garden - I put it on beds near Garden Room - also on new Cornus Kousa area - tree finally coming out. moved orange tulips to triangle bed and pink tulips (from terrace garden also) to Garden Room. Planted Vancouveria (3) from Seskiyou in North woods.

1992 - Monday - 50° at 6:30. Fair. Sun 5:50 - 7:56 Did crossword quickly. I took gift plants to the Greenhouse for the Garden Mart - bought tomatoes. Wes started clean up of Freddy Pool - had it all emptied in afternoon. I cut grass To bank & Marcus. Cleaned moss from stepping stones - path to Garden Room - planted onions in top bed - moved out all astilbe from there - Wes edged perennial bed.
