May 11

1988 - Wednesday - 52° at 6:15 - cloudy - Re 1973 Iceberg lettuce now 99¢ - talk about high prices! Did a wash - ironed - Wes had shop hour - identified and marked photos taken at Atlanta & Winterthru.  Early lunch - short nap - left at 1 pm for Atchley - Wes had 3:15 appointment with Dr. Davetsky (actually 2:45) wax in ears - saw pathetic patients there so realize how fortunate we are - home at 5 pm - came through heavy rain in Yonkers - none in Elmsford & here.

1989 - Thursday - 42° at 6 AM - Mist - 1 3/4 inches rain.  To Mass. I worked at greenhouse in the morning. Shopped Brunetti - Youngs for bird food - Stop & Shop.  Wes worked on deer fence south line - We finished putting in the new plastic fence section there after lunch except for a gate.  I deadheaded narcissus moved some Bloodroot from under wall along wild garden walk up the path - growing too crowded!

1990 - Friday - 48° at 6 AM - Fair - 2.1 inches rain from yesterday - great.  Beautiful morning, but clouded up and a very cold wind - we weren't dressed for it. Left at 8:30 for Eileen's - from there to N.Y. Botanic Garden for Rock Garden Tour Day. Too many people, so we toured on our own.  Picked up our box lunch & ate it in the car to keep warm.  Home before three - Wes napped - I cut grass - very high - moved Jeffersonia Dubia from wild garden path to shed area.

1991 - Saturday - In White Plains for ARGS meeting - breakfast at 6:30 - Beautiful day.  Bus at 7:30 to gardens of Anne Spiegel, Wappengers Falls; Stone crop - Frank Cabot,  old Spring & Medge & David Riggs, Hastings - all very beautiful - back to Hotel at 3:30 - nap - Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows, Mamaroneck Ave., 7 pm., to Hotel to dress for Annual Dinner - won Kalmia Sarah and a trowel - gift plants of Kalmia myrtifolia - put plants in car - packed to leave tomorrow on return from bus trip.

1992 - Monday - 55° at 7:30 - Cloudy - windy - Became sunny and pleasant.  Big bird news - Rose Breasted Grosbeak here - ate at feeder in late afternoon - lots of Goldfinches - saw Grackle without a tale.  Wes went to Squash's - put ad in Pennysaver on selling shop equipment - also phoned "Bargain Sales" - to bank - bought Bananas.  I cut grass - moved some perennials - edged behind shade garden.  Wes took all the water from the Piper Pool.

May 12

1988 - Thursday - 46° at 6 AM - Fair - We were doing the crossword puzzle at 7:30 - no dishes done etc - when Eleanor Waddell phoned Eileen had been hit by a car as she crossed Broadway (about 7:30) Rushed down to Phelps Hospital - Eileen in emergency room - fractured shoulder and pulled ligaments in left leg - at least three days in hospital - Luckily not worse - Wes & I to Eileen's - did a few chores - spoke to neighbors - picked up onions at P.O. - took dogs - stopped at hospital but didn't see Eileen as Vera Jenna & Lue were with her - Jean Mahar waiting - home - Wes put in 4 fence posts - I walked dogs.

1989. Friday - 50° at 6 AM - Cloudy.  Must have had a shower overnight -  not a bad day for working.  To Mass.  Wes made a gate for wild garden deer fence.  I cut grass.  Put leaf mulch on part of "Joe's Garden".  Lifted - Premula in front of Wes' new bog wall - he will lower height.  Wes cut some saplings down behind south deer fence.  Picked up Mrs. Wegier at 5 pm - showed her our garden - took her to dinner at Inn - home at 10.

1990 - Saturday - 30° at 6:15.  Fair - then cloudy at times and cold.  Brought plants in at night.  Except for trip to bank (Nieveen and Medicare deposit) and Marcus, worked around place.  Wes edged paths and cleaned up at Well area - spread 2 bags wood chips on compost path.  I transplanted Astelbe, Hosta and Aquilegia in shade and Joe's Garden 
 - should have a plan.

1991 - Sunday - at White Plains Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza - continental breakfast - checked out - put bags in car.  Bus at 7:30 to Harold Epstein's Garden, Larchmont beautiful rather overgrown - to NY Botanical Garden - tour of Rock Garden. We walked in Native Garden - lunch at picnic area behind Watson Bldg - to Wave Hill - guide took us around - bus back to White Plains - left there at 3:15 - stopped at Stop & Shop for bananas etc - home to unload our new plants - unpacked - cut grass on south - watered - fuchsia collapsing in heat & wind

1992 - Tuesday - 45° at 6 AM. Sun up almost directly opposite breakfast table, NY Times delivery strike still on - but a paper was delivered to our box!  Great.  To Mass.  I worked at Ballard Garden in the morning.  Wes cleaned out the Piper Pool - refilled it in afternoon - we covered the pepe with black plastic and stones - put water on the area but the pump failed
