July 26

1988 - Tuesday - 64° at 6AM. Fog. Sun coming up over hill at 6:00 - nice morning - warm sun - more humid at noon - thunderstorm at 2:30 - rain evening & night. To Mass. Brought up 4 Christmas Ferns from north woods to north slope. [[Pruned?]] - Wes brought down rest of small Leucothoe from holding bed to north slope. I went to Silver Spring Country Club, picking up Stephen, as guest of Al Ruggles & Bobbie Long more for lunch before Garden Club meeting at Charlotte Camillos' - Wes to New England Food Co for lunch as guest of Al Fimpanella. 

1989 - Wednesday - in Minneapolis for American Horticultural Society Meeting - design symposium (extra) James Von Sweden, Arthur Bye (los [[Cob?]] landscape architect) Fred McGourty - Wildflower Research Director, Dr John Averett, Edgar Garbisch (Environmental Concern) on Wetland - the Ameriflora 1992 Dr. John Peterson - to be in cucumbers - at noon we walked on sky bridges - were lost [[furee?]] - found Dayton's Marketplace to buy lunch - dinner at Festival in Radisson - very good. 

1990 - Thursday - 64° at 6AM. Clear - fair day - hot sun - humid afternoon - we need rain. To Mass. Phoned Billie Newell - Anne Tracy - Betty Essex - the [[Salturgs?]] about Alex death, at Helen's request. Worked at Ballard in morning - garden book beautiful. Wes cemented two fence posts above cliff above compost - then moved soil to upper holding bed. I deadheaded - cut grass - trimmed.
     Cooked chicken kebabs on grill - good.

1991 - Friday - 40° at 6AM. Dark - gloomy. No Mass as Wes is taking car to Honda for service. I deadheaded. Eileen phoned from Phelps Hospital - taken there last night by Eva Einsel (Dr. Brogel's Secretary) attack of diverticulitis. When Wes returned we went to Tarrytown - picked up dogs - visited Eileen at hospital. Home - Tony Ongaro worked until rain started about 2pm. Maybe one more day to go on the wall. I pulled up 9 of the many Azalea cuttings made in June. Walked dogs social time.

1992 - Sunday - 54° at 6:15. Cloudy - rain about 3 o'clock - light. To 8 o'clock Mass. Deadheaded daylilies and lots of rhododendron on north slope - some still have blooms. Rearranged hanging plants - one fuchsia hitting the tree. Trimmed top of left hemlock garden Room. Shoveled our top [[curb?]] off. To [[Hartevens?]] at 5:15 - Son Bruce + wife Diane there - cocktail party - home at 7.
     Had phoned Bit and Joan - Joan has operation tomorrow - breast lump. 

July 27

1988 - Wednesday. 68° at 7AM. Fog. Rain in gauge .35 - We sure are getting rain - 2 inches in Jersey. 
     Warm - cloudy - very humid.
     To Donna Clark's garden for tour at 10/11:30 - beautiful grounds. Shopped at Stop + Shop - cleaners for Wes' pants - liquor. After lunch dug up 4 more ferns from north woods - planted them on North Slope with one Cinnamon fern taken from Royal Fern Area in Bog - Cardinal flowers coming out - dinner on deck - not bad there.

1989 - Thursday - in Minneapolis for American Horticultural Society meeting - continental breakfast then speakers John Greenlee on "Surviving in Style" + Richard Gray "Use + Misuse of Water" - bus at 11 to Minnesota Landscape Arboretum - lunch under tent - Explored Arboretum grounds + bus tour of grounds - to. Bracketts Point home of Mrs John Pillsbury (102 in Aug) her children's home - then to Mrs Lockland Reid's home on west of lake (beautiful) to Tobey & Drew Semondson (sea otters) - dinner at home of Mrs Gerard Erickson's home Lake Minnetonka. 

1990 - Friday - 65° at 6AM. Cloudy, humid, warm. Looked like rain. But none here. To Mass.
     To Dr. Jeffrey Sandler, Ophthalmologist in Ridgefield - at 9:30 for Wes' eyes. Wes liked him - come back 3 mos.
     Took rusty chicken wire to Recycling - stopped at [[Copps Hill?]] for liquor and bananas. Worked around place weeding. put leaf mulch on perennial garden.
     To [[Kave?]] Funeral Home Home at 7 for Alex Ross wake. 

1991 - Saturday - 65° at 6:30AM. Dogs with us. Cloudy, humid morning - cleared in afternoon but still humid. 3 inches of rain - paths eroded. Wes raked them. He took down ironwood at curve of weldgarden path. I walked dogs - brushed them as lots of little green stickers. I took a stalk of the cardinal flower - now starting to bloom - laid it down in propagation box. Cleaned up Cardinal area of gone-by skunk cabbage. Eileen feeling a little better - fever gone. 

1992 - Monday. 68° at 7AM. Foggy - muggy.
4/10 inch in rain gauge. Wes worked on deer fence on cliff behind shed - took out chicken wire - replaced it by afternoon with [[whobbly?]] wire - just the lower part at end of workday. I went to S + S - found suet! Good as all ours and we have several Field Red Bellieds - cut grass and helped Wes put our new deer wire. We went to see Joe Keller's garden. large and with beautiful plants growing well. He gave us carrots and basil. 
     Phoned Joan - had her operation but no results yet.
