August 9

1988 - Tuesday - 65° at 6:15 - Fair - not a bad night
Pleasant early morning but later very warm & humid
I worked at Ballard with Susie Ahern and Edith Meffley - deadheading & weeding. Stopped for gasoline for car and can - sent soil sample to Cooperative Extension Soc - few groceries at Gran Central. Wes had raised stone wall around front left of front gate - weeded along lower road - I cut grass we watered new fern area.

1989- Wednesday - 54° at 6 am. Sunny - a beautiful day if you don't garden. Did the crossword.
Wes continued clearing top of big rock - took logs and all debris to area outside upper gate
I deadheaded and watered - watered -
Wrote to Joan. Lunch in garden room

1990 - Thursday - 60° at 6am - Increasing cloudiness - sprinkles in late afternoon. To Mass.
I worked at Ballard with Edith Meffley & Peg Ryan - home
at 11:15. Wes watered myrtle on hilltop transplanted yesterday - then he continued on northeast slope clearing
We went to Myles Aborn at 3pm - dug 15 of his Japanese Primula and one Japanese Iris - planted the Primula along watercourse in wild garden. Will plant the iris tomorrow.

1991- Friday - 64° at 6am - Cloudy - damp.- rain started lightly about 8 - continued all day, sometimes heavy. To Mass - Painter from Sticky Fingers here where we returned. He stained the front door grey and the inside of the front door and laundry door a natural stain. We picked up Wes' pants from cleaner in morning and after lunch we went to Washington to
pick up box for ground covers entry in their show - painter gone when we returned - we took a nap.

1992 - Sunday - Raining - heavy at times - Thunderstorms during day- Almost didn't drive to White Flower Farm for Rock Garden seedling sale, but left at 9:30 - not bad going up - bought 18 plants - mostly for shade - nothing at White Flower Farm - terrific tieup on Rt. 84 coming home - got off at Exit 9 & came home thru
Newtown and Bethel - had a cocktail - our sandwich - nap - out to deadhead - very humid - ironed

August 10

1988- Wednesday 74° at 6:30 - Dark-gloomy. Still to be HHH - it was - worst day yet - 87° still at 5:30.
Put fan on at night.
Mailed invitations for Oct. 8 -deadheaded - defrosted refrigerator-did a wash- so many wet clothes around account humidity - early lunch- Wes had 2:15 appointment with Dr. Neligan - good report - blood pressure 140/80
Picked Queen Anne's Lace - Black-eyed Susan - goldenrod to take
to Kathleen Eason for Louise Willets Memorial Service Friday

1989 - Thursday - 52° at 6 AM- Partly cloudy-off and on sun. Good temperature. To Mass.
Did crossword. To Waldbaum’s - bank and Marcus. Then worked around the place. Wes on top of big rock - looking good up there
I deadheaded, watered - today the wood knoll, moss and upper folding beds - noticed at dinnertime 
the Garden Room back rhododendron wilting.
Eileen may have gout in right foot.

1990 - Friday - 68° at 6:30- Had light shower at 5AM - NYC had heavy rain. Foggy and dark.
To Mass - heavy rain on return home. Took Helen Ross to limosine at 9 o’clock - she was spending few days in Pittsburg - We shopped Stop & Shop & bought gasoline-$1.46 gal. up 6¢ account Iraqi takeover of Kuwait. Learned Millicent Sattler's brother
killed last night. Rain off & on all day - heavy - between 3 and 4 inches at 5 pm.

1991 - Saturday - 70° at 7AM- Cloudy- 1½ inches in rain gauge - cleared by afternoon to a beautiful day
Did a wash- We cleaned up more dead trees in compost area. Then took down two at north area.
I dug up more groundcover plants - tiarella, magus one Shortia (wanted to move that anyway) and put all the plants in low or six packs so they will fit in 3½" deep box.
To Kellers' at 5 pm- Father McCormick - his sister Mary Jo and husband Bob Anderson there - lots of Ridgebury folk.

1992- Monday- 68° at 7AM - Cloudy-cleared in afternoon - day warm and muggy.
Did a wash. Phone call from Lillian Willis that sundial was found up in a tree in Ballard - John Conway- the volunteer- wanted to repair it- we went to Atto Gust who okayed that- on to S & S- gasoline for car & can - Marcus for milk - home to start clearing off big rocks on north- will
get some good topsoil. After lunch spread leaf mulch north side of path to top- Wes set a big stone there for a step- picked beans- tomatoes and zucchini
