Feast of Assumption

August 15

1988 - Monday 78° at 6:30 - HHH again
No thunderstorm in this area - too bad as terribly dry. Ate breakfast on deck while had sprinkler in garden room. Wes went for a haircut but too many there to wait - picked up renewed Blood Pressure pills. To 12 Noon Mass for Feast of Assumption - Watered in afternoon. Cut two more small Cardinal flowers to propagate but had difficulty covering wire frames with plastic. Cooler in evening.

1989 - Tuesday. 70° at 6 AM. Foggy - HHH - bad weather continues - shower at 5 pm.
I worked at Ballard Garden - gave Cardinal flowers to Muriel and Carol Stoddard and showed them how to propagate. Bought gasoline - Texaco's new System 3,
Wes had cut down small trees around compost bin - one had died, dropping all its leaves in heavy rain. Checked propagation boxes - two small ones (Cardinal flower and White Money Lunium [[linum]]) succumbed with fungus - had light plastic coverings.

1990 - Wednesday - 60° at 6 AM - Fair - beautiful day - warm sun - good breeze.
Spent all morning rolling up (& cleaning) bedroom rug and pad, and getting together articles for Goodwill Industries. They called at 3:30 to cancel - maybe next Wednesday. Wes picked up glass for table top in guest bath - I spray painted the table. Wes raked more paths, getting them back into shape after storm washout. To 7:30 Mass for Feast of Assumption.

1991 - Thursday. 70° at 7 AM - Cloudy - good to sleep late - hot & muggy - a shower at 5 pm - 1/10 inch
I went to bank and Stop & Shop. To noon Mass.
Wes worked on north end. I cut grass - dead-headed - Put sprinkler on garden room.
Andy Vill came at 4:30 - will take wood & brush. Will grub treat - aerate & fertilize & seed our grass - Good!

1992 - Saturday - 60° at 7:30. Slept late. Did crossword after breakfast. Indoor day - miserable cold - rainy - electricity off for 1 1/4 hours at 2:15 pm.
Made muffins. Cleaned house. Set up guest bed for Helen Ross who will stay with us after Jane Jessup's party for Billie Newell's 95th Birthday (really the 17th) Helen came here at 6:15 - we went to Jane Jessup's - great party - 18 people .  home at 10:30 pm.

August 16

1988 - Tuesday - 70° at 6 AM. Less humidity but no rain unfortunately - a good working morning at Ballard - Wes worked there at edging paths. Muriel Pedersen - Edith Meffley - Charlotte Crosley and Sherryl Taylor (first time)
Mr Tinker brought the iron frame for the espaliered Boulevard Cypress - we set it up & pruned the shrub - took soil sample back to Post Office - Pinchbeck for flowers for Billie's birthday which we delivered to her - home for lunch - watered Wood Knoll - cut grass - watered Viburnums and Dogwood. Cool evening

1989 - Wednesday - 70° at 6:45 - Fair - Good to sleep later. Increasingly humid as day wore on - cloudy - looked like rain but none. Couldn't see the eclipse of the moon because of clouds.
Worked around place - Wes is clearing old wood from South bank. I propagated a Cardinal stem and Azalea Prunifolium. To bank. Marcus and Penney's for a birthday card for Billie. Brought over Varga's hibiscus and marjaram [[marjoram]]to mind while they are in Vancouver. Saw "Smiley's People" at 9/11:30

1990 - Thursday - 58° at 6AM - Fair day - warm sun - increasing humidity. To Mass. Called Bart Mercure, Deacon, To ask if he knew anyone who wanted our bedroom rug. He'll call back. Wes picked up Belgian Block from O & G and made a channel for water at driveway tree well. Wes picked up cleaned bedroom blue rugs - I waxed edges of floor - looks good. I bought bed pads at Penny's for guest room beds. Nice cool evening - We have been lucky this year with the night temperatures. 

1991 - Friday - 63° at 6AM - warm, muggy day. 
To Mass.
Wes ordered Topsoil from De Joris Bros. (recommended by Andy Vill) delivery Monday - 10yds @ $22.00
I dug two holes at rock near compost - for future transplanting of hostas - added peat moss

1992 - Sunday - 58° at 9 AM as we had breakfast after Mass. Helen Ross spent the night with us. Light rain Read papers - phoned Bit - managing with her left hand - Kelly - doing fine - told her of Bits fall and crushed elbow - Pam at Joan & Hooker's - she had heard from them Fri night. Wes called Mary. We picked up Helen at 12:15 - She took us to the Three Bears for luncheon - driving thru back roads of Wilton. Home at 3. Nap. I made coffee cake for Tuesday's Ballard crew. 
Light rain most of day. Put heat on in afternoon!
