October 14

1988 - Friday - 36° at 6:30. Fair - beautiful day - warmer in afternoon. 
Took 9:48 train from Purdy's. Wes had 11:30 appointment Dr. Espy - pressure good - come back Jan 18. Walked to Fifth & 64th to see Central Park Zoo recently renovated - enjoyed the buildings - animals and children. Bus to Grand Central 2:58 train - home at 4:45. Good day.

1989 - Saturday - 46° at 7:15 - good to sleep later. Partly cloudy - leaf color beautiful - Mostly sunny and warm. Prepared luncheon for Carol & Jon Coggeshall, here at twelve. Pleasant visit - Jon taking pills after meals for Parkinson's - seems to be doing well. They left at three o'clock as Carol's sister-in-law had died. We napped - cleaned up - read papers.

1990 - Sunday - 70° at 6AM - Warm weather continues To 8 o'clock Mass. I was Lector. Wes turned over compost bed #1 into #2 - finished for the season. Transplanted the Japanese anemone [[?]] into [[?]] front of Korean Lilac - the white ones (3) St. Honorine Jobert, into Shade Garden. Dug out huge white Siberian Iris in Joe's garden -made six out of it - replanted one there with a like one brought from below "Rhubarb" wall - Holed in balance of white Siberian in bed made behind rock north top.

1991 - Monday - 38° at 4 AM. Fair. Official Columbus Day celebration - Cold wind but good sunny day. Prepared lunch (dinner) cleaned - Eileen came at noon with two clean beautiful dogs - brought up Van Engelen bulbs - she left a little after three. Wes had cooked chicken kabobs - good cooking but kabobs not as good as those in summer. We rehung Baltimore Museum print in Powder Room. Wes has to get rid of old hangers & re-wallpaper. Red Ballied back of suet!

1992 - Wednesday - 42° at 7 AM. Sun 7:06-6:16. Fair. Took rest of deck furniture to hayloft. Moved Sedum Autumn Joy in perennial - took off a section to give Liz Montanari. Wes went to bank & Marcus. I cut the grass, lowering the lawnboy one number - most of moles/voles have gone deeper. Light rain after lunch. Wes moved 2 blueberry bushes to North Slope - throwing out the silky dogwood. I ironed - washed hair. To Silver Spring Country Club at 6:30 - Billie Newell gave a party for Jane Jessup (Birthday 9th) 18 people.

October 15

1988 - Saturday. 42° at 7 AM. Cloudy in AM. Sunny afternoon and warmer. 
Sent out invitations for Alex Ross' birthday party (at Mary Luke's) on Oct. 28th. 
To Marcus and bank. Wes had shop time. 
I cut grass - had to rake off leaves from lower south side first. Pulled up cleome - ageratum - some marigolds - cut off Hostas. Watered rhododendron & azaleas; garden well area.

1989 - Sunday - 53° at 6 AM - Dark - mostly cloudy day - damp - not cold though. To 8 o'clock Mass. I was Lector. Wes wrote contribution checks. I wrote to Ginger Dienst - made cookies - cut the grass to blow leaves - Wes raked - we cleaned up road to south. Spoke to neighbors [[Grests?]] & Mrs. Brossington who were walking up road - Rain Saturday night but not measurable. Phoned Joan, Bit and Carolyn & Eileen.

1990 - Monday - 60° at 6 AM - Leonard Bernstein dead. To Mass. Wes went for a haircut, bank & Marcus. I made muffins & coffee cake for Ballard work Thursday. We raked leaves - driveway - south lawn - path to wildgarden - woods. Wes started leaf blower after lunch & blew leaves on north grass - wood knoll lots. I cut grass - raking up part - cut off day lilies. Increasingly colder toward evening.

1991 - Tuesday - 42° at 6 AM - Dark - cleared in morning - light rain about noon. To Mass. I worked at Ballard until 11 o'clock - finished cutting back the garden. Wes took out the pool pumps - brought in some hoses and spray head. After lunch to bank and Stop & Shop. Senate confirmed Judge Clarence Thomas 52 to 48 - It has been a very divisive time for the country.

1992 - Thursday. 50° at 7 AM - Cloudy. Breakfast after Mass. Cleared to a great day. Sunny - mild - had to take off sweaters. To Mass. Took Sedum Autumn Joy piece to Liz Montanari - gasoline at Mobil - for the can also - left film for copies of group on Sat. Oct 10th. After lunch I cut down the day lily bed - brought up the last of the leaf [[chips?]] from wild garden - Wes brought [[sweet peas?]] to blueberry bushes on North Slope - rolled parts of the ground & put the roller away - we put Dahlias into crawl space. Watched 2nd Presidential Debate at 9 pm. We think Gov. Clinton did well.
