Pontlevoy.  These fossils filled a gap in the collection which is of some importance, and they will be very useful for comparison with fossils of the American Miocene in which the national collection is so rich.

We have received from Dr. J. G. Cooper, acting on behalf of the California Academy of Sciences, a number of interesting land shells from Lower California, collected on an expedition sent out by the Academy; a number of these were still living when received, although they had been collected for a number of months.

From Mr. Dexter, the United States Consul at Fayal, a collection of 76 species of Madiera land shells has been received, by purchase from a local collector.  As few species from this locality were previously contained in the collection, this addition is very welcome.
