Hemphill, of California, 32 species of California shells were received during the year, as a donation to the Museum.

In the winter of 1893-94, Mr. J.B. Henderson Jr., accompanied by Mr. Simpson of this department, visited the Island of Jamaica, West Indies, where a month was spent in collecting. The expenses of the journey were borne by Mr. Henderson, who generously placed a full series of the shells collected at the disposition of the Museum, besides duplicate specimens of those species which were collected in large quantities. The contribution to the collection, thus made, included 551 entries on the register and a total of about 3153 specimens. During the same expedition, Mr. Henderson & Mr. Simpson stopped at the well known locality of Bowden in Jamaica & obtained three large boxes of miocene marl [[?]] of
