Dear Doris,

Your letters and cards were so enjoyable. The picture on the card with the flowers on it was especially pretty and people who have seen it have commented on it. It was so nice to hear of your experiences and it must have been wonderful to be able to get to see all the buildings, objects of art, etc. in Europe. You can now authentically assume a "Continental Air"!

The weather in Washington this summer (while I was here) was remarkably pleasant. Most of the time it has been below 90ºF and there hasn't been much rain. I have been able to go to work many days without rain equipment (although one rainy a.m. I was caught in the apartment with my raincoat and both umbrellas left in the museum).

Although not having been able to do anything as exciting as you have been doing, I did manage to get away to Conn. for about a month and enjoy the ponds, lakes, Sound, etc.. It was so pleasant
