D-QU trustees named

Almost 400 Indians and Chicanos from all over the west gathered at the former Army communications center west of Davis yesterday to elect a new 32-member interim D-QU board of trustees.

Sixteen Indians and 16 Chicanos will serve on the board, which will be in existence not more than one year. It will take office as soon as legal formalities can be completed to transfer jurisdiction from D-QU's incorporators to the new governing body. A permanent board is expected to be elected when more national participation is gained for the fledgling school.

The general meeting also divided the new board into four committees - administration, public relations, curriculum and maintenance and grounds - to divide responsibilities for the operation of the institution.

David Risling, coordinator of Native American studies at UCD and one of the original D-QU incorporators, said yesterday's meeting signalled "greater involvement of the Indian and Chicano people in the D-QU concept."
