Dear Friend:
Your name was given to us as a person that is concerned about American Indian problems. The Indians have many problems but unfortunately, few solutions.
One solution...culture and religious centers run by Indian artists and medicine men
Another...education...training centers run by Indians
Yet, another solution...an economic base (some of the landless tribes need a base to operate from)
Housing...warm houses with electricity and sewage
Surplus properties touch on all these things.
The Federal Government is getting ready to give away (reference: N.Y. Times article, March 31, 1971), 6.8 BILLION dollars worth of surplus land. Let's see that some of our Indian people get some of it before it is gone.
Help Indians help themselves through self-determination, "Return Surplus Lands to Indians" (RSLIP).
A California committee of offices and workers to "Return Surplus Lands to Indians" is being formed. You are invited to join us at an initial organizing meeting on June 21, 1971, 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m., at Deganawidah-Quetzalcoatl University, Davis, California.
I will appreciate knowing if you plan to attend.

Yours Sincerely,

Grace F. Thorpe
National Committee/Director
