FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Davis, California -- Today the office of Surplus Property Utilization of the United States Department of Health, Education and Welfare awarded 640 acres of land 6 miles west of Davis, to the Trustees of Deganawidah-Quetzacoatl University.
Sol Elson, Director of the Office of Surplus Property made the presentation to David Risling, Chairman of the D-Q Board of Trustees who accepted the deed for the site of the former U.S. Army Communication Center
"This is the first time that we have conveyed surplus property for an Indian-Chicano University -- a fufillment of the dreams of Indians and Chicanos who have been attempting to develop their own institutions over these many years," said Elson. "D-Q" University represents one of the most significant undertakings in the field of Indian-Chicano education to date. We believe all Americans can soon turn to D-QU as the shining example of an able institution, fully meeting Indian and Chicano educational needs as they are defined and met by Indians and Chicanos.
It is my distinct pleasure to deliver the deed to this former military facility, making D-QU a reality."
