SATURDAY
Fair. In the morning after breakfast + an apple pie I rode to store (A. + P. - opens at 9:00 A.M., used to open at 8:00 A.M.) + got no. 6 coupon sugar (using Mrs. Barry's + Grandma's ration cards) That's 4 lb. sugar. We haven't used 6 or 7 yet (M. D + me) but [[arrow pointing to Grandma's]] + [[arrow pointing to Barry's]] have now. Then I did German, ate lunch, (chicken used up yesterday in last of stew from remains) + we went to the pond. (at 2:00 got home at 6:00) Swam twice - pretty cold water but air warmer. Mabel + I went out in water over our heads + stood on bottom. Mabel got two ice creams - one dime one (I pd for - owe her nothing) + one 5¢ at pond. I got one 5 cent one at stand. Then we came home. I stopped at library + it closes tonight - my book wasn't there so I got Edna Ferber's "Saratoga Trunk" + went home. Helen Curtis (girlhood friend of mothers was to come over in the evening but couldn't. She will come tomorrow.

SUNDAY
Rained all day so we stayed home all day. In morning, German + housework + after lunch I designed the basement + land plan of my "dream house". We thought Helen Curtis was coming over today but she didn't. So after supper, at 7:00 I walked to Webster's ice cream store + bought a 40¢ pint of a little ginger and black raspberry ice cream. Mrs. Barry got home from the 1st part of her vacation at 9:30. She leaves next week for rest. Mother doesn't like [[arrow pointing to Mrs. Barry]] - she is nice when she has her way, but cooks well ($30 per month + food and board)
