TO DENTIST Deskaide | The Silent Secretary | 1942 August | 28 | Friday Fair & a little warm. After breakfast mother rode to the store on my bike & I walked to Dentist's (Dr. Kenny - he did nothing - he's horrible - I bet I have been to him 10 times & only once did he do 2 teeth - puts off & puts off. He is a nice man, though but very pessimistic. He says I have 2 more instead of 4 more. He could have done them but got in an hour late (as usual) & did nothing. My appointments are always an hour late. Then came home, had lunch, did some German, Mabel came over & we went to the pond - 13 - & only about 4 people there but 2 life guards most by divers. I swam almost the whole length of the line (about 50') without stopping. It is not over your head anywhere now except in one place a little I think. I can swim farther than Mabel but her stroke is much better. [[Left margin]] Then we rode home & we got ice cream, 10 cents each, & then it started to rain, it stopped. [[Right margin]] I got a nice letter from Bobbie Fair. In the morning I went to the store, finished all my German & did housework. Mother is painting & puttying 9 small panes & 6 large panes (double {{up arrow}}). It is hard work but she always is doing hard work. In the afternoon at 1:00 P.M. I went to Edna's for my permanent. Mother pd $1.75, I pd $1.75 (total $3.50). I had $8.88 - I have $7.13 now! The permanent took about 2 1/2 hrs. & was heated by machine on ends, cut to shoulder length, dipped in water & wave set & put under dryer. It came out; in back it just touches collar. I didn't want it quite this way but it is cute but frizzy. I am very glad for I do not have to put it up now! Mother washed my hair well in the morning. [[Left margin]] When I came home, mother & Grandma like it, ate. [[Top of page}} Gladys Wentworth & her relatives came over {{?? paragraph over calendars]]
