[Left Page] JERGEN'S -2 Deskaide * The Silent Secretary * 1942 September 17 Thursday Cloudy in the morning. I lay around. Yesterday I made a yellow candle necklace 8 now - red, blue, green, light pink, dark pink, dirty white and white and yellow. I sent for 2 more free purse sized Jergen lotions. In the afternoon I pressed all my ribbons, mended clothes. In the evening, Dolores and Jean came over and we fooled around. Jean got mad and went home and as it was late I had to accompany Dolores home. She doesn't get along with her typewriting teacher and is 2 days behind. (She's very nervous anyway) and is going to get another teacher, probably if tomorrow she doesn't get along. Fair and later cloudy- very short showers in morning-generally muggy. Mother and I went down town and I had my picture taken at Kann's and got 7/8 yd. of dark blue (80% rayon, 20% wool) material for a jerkin she's going to make for me and a pattern (size 14) for a wool broomstick shirt, too (no material yet). Then we went to the museum and visited mother's friends there (whew [strikethrough]we[/strikethrough] they talked ages) and came home. I had a bite to eat and I lay around the rest of the afternoon. I start school Monday. I found a 10 cent piece on the street downtown and took the 12 cents due me for the cocoa-cola bottles (6 - 2¢ a piece) I found at the beach - 22 cents. I had $1.18 - have $1.40 now! 22 ¯¯¯¯¯ 1.40 [[footnote]] "One should eat to live, not live to eat"- Franklin [[/footnote]]
