grandmother Rachel, and one of Mrs. Davis' Aunt Mary, M.E.'s grandmother. M.E. told me (1972) that Rachel was mother of Anne Lamb Davis' father, William Lamb who lived in Long Creek. Mrs. Davis told me that William Lamb, her father, was "nearly the youngest of about 16 children" of Rachel's who had four husbands: Croom, Williams, Lamb and Williams. M.E. told me that Croom died of small pox during slavery She also told me that she did not iknow the name of Rachel's fourth husband. That is as clear as I have been able to deduce and follow from notes (10/29/75) on conversation with Mrs. Davis, followed by telephone conversations with her (5/6/89). Aunt Maggie Ellerby was sister of William Lamb. Aunt Hager also was his sister.(see reference to Hager in M.E. chronology. She lived with Hager in Virginia one year while still in school.) According to Mrs. Davis, Marni (daughter of Moni from Trinidad) was mother of Rachel, mother of Mary, M.E.'s "Mama Mary" or grandmother. Mrs. Davis told me that Mary Lamb Jones was Rachel's oldest daughter. But that does not quite agree with what M.E. told me many times, that Moni was M.E.'s great grandmother's great grandmother. One generation is missing.

Another cousin Mrs. Davis told me about (10/29/75), a Croom, who had a cook shop in Wilmington on Market or Dock st. at time of riot, was shot at in street during riot. He lay there all day then got up and went to New Jersey and never came back.

Mrs. Davis told me that her Aunt Mary Lamb Jones, (grandmother of M.E.) "was very haughty. She walked proudly and was dressed immaculately.. .Her eyes were set deep. Her father lived in Long Creek." See what M.E.s mother Mrs. Kelly told me another time of her mother, Mary Lamb Jones.

MRS, DAVIS, cont. She was brought up in Wilmington, sometimes spending summers in Pittsburgh with her brother Ed. Mrs. Davis told me (10/29/75) that M.E. and Julius took her to Pembroke Park, the home of the Pembroke Jones in Wrightsville Beach, while she was still living in Wilmington.
