MOLLUSKS-1897

1. How the fiscal year ending June 30, 1897, compared with the previous year, as far as (a) the number of accessions and (b) their scientific value are concerned?

(a) The number of accessions for 1896-7 is 149, against 118 for 1895-6. The number of specimens, exclusive of fossils, amounted to about 10,400 for 1896-7, against 3173 received in 1895-6.

(b) With regard to the value of the specimens while many of the accessions, as usual were not large or important, yet there has been an unusual number of desirable species, filling gaps in our reserve series, received during the past year, both in small and large lots. The year, while not extraordinary, may be said to have been unusually fruitful in desirable material added to the collections.
