4. INDICATE BRIEFLY THE PRESENT CONDITION OF THE EXHIBITION SERIES AND THE STUDY SERIES, IN YOUR DEPARTMENT.

The exhibition series is in good order and condition and has been beautified by the addition of the mounted specimens exhibited at Atlanta, otherwise no marked alteration has been made in it during the current year.
The study series is in fair condition, accessible, and so arranged that any thing desired can be found directly, if in the series. A large amount of work will eventually be required upon the general collection to unify the nomenclature and make sure that each specimen is correctly identified.
This sort of work must be done by a specialist in each group, and the revision will necessarily be slow and irregular in progress.
