Sunday June 16, 1872
Ther. 47, 47, 44. Bar.29.80.
Cloudy, wind light or none. Get up the anchor at 6. A.M and stand out a little when it falls calm and we anchor again. Later about 9 we have a light N breeze and put out again -
Bar. 9.P.M. 30.050. Get outside of the harbor and find a heavy WNW swell + fresh wind stand off on the starboard tack but it freshens so that I conclude to give up the Bogoslov [Bogoslof] [[trip?]] and head her for Unalga Pass. The wind is fair to the Shumajins [Shumagins] and it is too valuable to throw away for the doubtful chance of doing anything at the other place. Come to in the Pass + drop two Aleuts in their bidarka who were going to Bogosloff [Bogoslof] for eggs with us. Then go off with a [[nice?]] wind and more rapidly than I have ever before got through one of these passes. See the sloop Jabez Howes on her way to Iliuliuk from Akhun [Akun] -
at 6:30 P.M: leave the Pass
Cloudy-foggy not very rough but fresh WNW wind -
