Ther 47.64.53. Bar. 29.780. Half cloudy, wind very light and variable. Start at 8 A.M. and sound until 12.30 P.M. sound till 5:30 and return to vessel. Mr. Hodgekins observing tide staff. Two boats from the bark Legal Tender in charge of Mr. Chute going to Coal Harbor for coal come alongside & spend the night. P.M. cloudy Take 1247 soundings today. 9 P.M. bar. 29.880.

Ther. 52.61.48.5. Bar. 29.882 Cloudy very light NW wind. Start at 8.30 sounding and sound all day taking some lunch with us and finishing the work in these straits. Back to vessel at 6.30 P.M. Chute goes back
