which had been accumulating there, was shipped to Washington, and is now contained in the Smithsonian building. This collection contained very many jars of alcoholic specimens, which have not yet been examined. The dried material consisted of over 100 specimens of the hitherto rare gorgonian corals, Primnoa reseda, Paragorgia arborea, Paramuricea borealis, Acanella Normani, and Keratosis ornata. Many of these corals were in exceptionally fine condition, and some of the specimens are of immense size. One specimen of the Paragorgia is especially large, measuring over seven feet in height. Other portions of this collection consisted of large and fine specimens of the Fishing Bank's Crustacea.
