Endt on Comn of E.G. Townsend. Supt &c

Office Supt K.G. [[?]]
Washington. Mch 8" 1867,

Respectfully returned with the following explanation.

On the last day of Febry. I started for Major Brown's office, to render my account for tenements in my care, during that month. on my way, I was unavoidably detained, until I feared I might be to late for office, hours, and so hastened a messenger with the money, which was duly delivered, and receipted for by Major Brown, except that the messenger failed to state, for what purpose it was sent.

I had no means of writing when I sent the messenger: - will take early measures to have the receipt in proper form.
