Work in Research

The administrative work involved in organizing a new department, containing such a mass of materials as this one, the distribution of duplicates, and the preparation of reports on economic marine invertebrates, for the fishery census, has prevented the curator from engaging in much actual scientific research during the past year. Such time as could be spared has been devoted to the marine copepods, and numerous drawings and field notes have been made. During the summer of 1882, as in several previous years, the curator acted as an assistant to the U. S. Fish Commission, and, under Prof. A. E.
