In the Senate, S.J. Res. 46 has been referred to the Committee on Rules and Administration. We are advised that the Subcommittee under Senator Pell will act on this legislation the latter part of May or early in June.

Canal Zone Biological Area limitation on appropriation

H.R. 7059, to eliminate the limitation on appropriations for the Canal Zone Biological Area, was passed by the House on May 10.

In the Senate, S. 1294 has been referred to the Committee on Rules and Administration. We expect action by Senator Pell's Subcommittee in late May or early June. The House bill H.R. 7059 was referred to the Senate Committee on Armed Services. Mr. Clapp on Senator Saltonstall's office is inquiring into the possibility of having H.R. 7059 referred to the Committee on Rules and Administration. 

Appropriations

The House has passed our "Salaries and Expenses" appropriation in the amount of $18,468,000 (Budget: $20,365,000). 

The Senate Committee has recommended to the Senate an appropriation of $19,211,000. 

The bill as passed by the House and as recommended by the Senate Committee on Appropriations also includes $1,300,000 for archeological research using foreign currency funds; $2,248,000 for restoration and renovation of buildings, principally the Smithsonian Building; and $1,539,000 for construction at the National Zoological Park.
