15. Painting. GREED, by Umberto Romano (1906 - ), American. Oil on board, 60 x 40 inches, 1950. Gift of the Artist, New York, New York. 

Born in Salerno, Italy. Studied art at the National  Academy of Design and in Italy. Has held one-man traveling exhibitions in this country and abroad. Served as the head of the Worcester Museum of Art School of Art, and the Romano School in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Is an active member of the National Academy of Design. Work is in the Fogg Museum of Art, the Worcester Museum of Art, the Corcoran Gallery of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

16. Painting. BENARES ON THE GANGES, by Maurice Sterne (1877 - 1957), American. Oil on pasteboard, 37-1/2 x 25-1/2 inches, 1952. Bequest of Henry Ward Ranger. 

Born in Libau, Latvia. Came to United States, 1889. Studied at Cooper Union in 1892, and at the National Academy of Design with Thomas Eakins from 1894 to 1899; awarded National Academy of Design Traveling Fellowship, 1904. Sterne's work is represented in most of the major art museums in this country.
