Dear Sidney,
 
Suppose you reached Washington OK but according to the paper guess you run into colder weather than we had here when you left. Saturday was a cold day here but today it has warmed up considerably. Maude and I drove to Nantucket this afternoon and those poor old steamboats were certainly wrecked. The wood was completely burned except a little of the Rose Standish and there was nothing but the smoke stacks, paddle wheels, piping and the metal left and it means quite a financial loss. I think there were more cars there than I ever saw but we were fortunate and didn't get held up for any length of time.
