Carl Inn, just outside Yosemite Park, 27 June 1934

Dear D. & D:

We got away about 8.45 in 5 cars - 13 of us - and drove over the coast ranges & the San Joaquin Valley (which was not hot) and reached here (about 6 miles from Mather) about 4 o'clock (elev. about 4000 ft.) We drive on a few miles to Tuolumne Big Tree Grove (not as imposing as Wawona) and onto 6500 ft., where we had a fine view, then came back to supper and afterwards sat around the campfire, then took a walk up the road and now to bed. The air is wonderfully clear up here, & it is not cold. We shall stop here again tomorrow night, after excursions, & then go on higher. Got 4 letters from you yesterday. Love. SFB
