specializing in such studies. The Academy will examine various management practices in the context of the Museum's mission, and Dr. Hoffmann directed the Regents' attention to that mission statement in the following report. 

Dr. Hoffmann asked R. Scot Fosler, President of NAPA, and Carole M. P. Neves, Project Director, to describe the approach that they are using in this management review. Mr. Fosler first spoke about the nature of NAPA and then noted the Academy's standard practice of appointing an oversight panel, including selected Academy fellows and others with related experience and perspectives related to the study, and a project director with the responsibility for research staff. Ultimately, Mr. Fosler noted, it is the panel's responsibility to provide the imprimatur for the report. In his introduction of the Project Director Neves, Mr. Fosler noted in her previous experience with several science agencies and a prior project at the Smithsonian.

Dr. Neves noted that the following individuals will comprise the panel: James E. Colvard (Chairman), Joel Bloom, Phillip A. Odeen, Robert White, Charles Goodsell, and Harriet Jenkins. She added that the study will be organized around five key areas: the mission of the Museum; its governance structure; its policy and decision making; its planning and operations; and its organizational structure and resources. Thus far the Project Director's staff has interviewed 25 Museum employees and will soon be telephoning members of the Museum's Advisory Committee and talking with members of outside groups, including groups that were recently involved in the Enola Gay experience.
