listening to the music. They also held high Mass in St. Marie's Church all day in honor of the New Year.

I hope you had a nice Xmas and a happy new year and of course you did. We enjoyed ? on the train as best we could, playing cards.

Thank heavens we have got out of the land of snow and can work a little now. Will you excuse the burn on this page as I was trying to save time by drying it in the candle and it took fire. Forgive me baby. Venise is the loveliest bit of colour that these plebian ever was rested on. How is that I guess I will write a poem about it. It must be rough on my friends, (if I have such things). That's the only reason I dont do it.

My dearest Emmie

Received yours of the 18th just before leaving Munich.

I wonder what you think of me and my hunts. You see I can't seem to find any place to stay since I left Paris.

The schools are so full in Munich that we could not get in before Easter and we did'nt want to wait all that time so we thought we would come down here and paint till then.

We packed up in little than no time and shipped out. We made up our minds at 3:30 and at 8 we were on our way to Venice. Had a lovely trip down here. The best I have experienced since my departure. When we started it was as cold as Greenland and the snow lasted till we got way down into Italy but it is warm and pleasant here.
