We dont want to count our chickens before they are hatched or our money before we have earned it but wont it be lovely if we can get married next summer and have money enough to live decently on.  I feel now as if I could learn to draw and all I want to do to prove it is to take a prize at the school.  If I could take a prize away from the frenchmen when the school is the largest it has ever been it would be quite a feather in my cap, considering it is called the finest school in france for drawing: but I guess it will be as much as a week before I do that darling.  Just pray once in a while that I will get on all right dear.  I have more faith in your

prayers than I use to.  Oh! Al and I don't smoke at all - we each swore a solemn oath to the other that the one who smoked first should pay the other 5 francs or one dollar.  So you see it is for our interest not to smoke.  It was awfully kind and thoughtfull of you darling to say I might; however I want to do it for your sake.  I am so sorry that Sophia's little baby did'nt live; to think that after all that suffering and anxiety that it should come to nothing, it is really too bad.  I must write and tell them how sorry I am.    I began this letter last night but could not finish it so had to let it go till today which is Sunday.
